Loose Women star Denise Welch has put forward her views on why she believes dislike towards Meghan Markle evolved after she married Prince Harry back in 2018.

The 66-year-old is no stranger to defending the pair, who quit their senior royal duties back in 2020 and moved to America,
where they still remain with son Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.
While a guest on a podcast recently, Denise was asked if she believes racism contributed to the wide negative reaction to Meghan, who is mixed-race.

Sharing her thoughts, the actress believes Palace officials may have believed that Princess Kate, who is married to Prince William,

“had to be” the “peoples’ princess” and because of this, there was no room for Meghan.

Additionally, the Loose Women panellist said she does believe “racism” played a factor in the Duchess of Sussex not necessarily being treated the same way as Kate. She added: “I think there was racism involved in it, of course there was, like when Princess Diana was with Dodi Fayed.
“The same sort of thing, they don’t want [it]. I’m not saying this is the actual family, I’m saying the people who look after the royal family. The men in grey suits and everything, they probably didn’t like this at all.”
Defending Meghan further, she said people may not realise that before the former Suits actress met Harry, she was a humanitarian who advocated for women’s rights from a very young age. “She was in those rooms before she married Harry,” Denise stressed.
“She was a young woman of colour speaking out for women of colour and equality for women from a very very young age.

“She was on the stage talking for the United Nations, she went all over the place talking on behalf of those issues. So, although there was an elevated status given to her as a Princess, she still was in those rooms.”
Denise went on to say with this, Harry “fell for that side of her personality” as well as the fact she’s a “beautiful woman”.
The mother-of-two, whose son Matt Healy of the band 1975 lives in Los Angeles, also shut down claims that Americans are not massive fans of the pair living in the their country.
