Amanda Abbington has denied knowing the person behind a mystery account online asking for information regarding Giovanni Pernice.
An anonymous account has cropped up over recent days on industry forums and asked others who have worked with the Italian dancer in the past to “come forward”
– citing: “This is crucial in supporting Amanda’s case.”
While some publications are reporting that the anonymous account is a friend of Amanda’s, a representative for the actress tonight
denied having an knowledge of the request and whoever is posting the requests is doing it “without our knowledge.”
The BBC recently launched an internal investigation after receiving complaints about Giovanni, 33.
The professional dancer however has rejected “any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour” made against him.
It’s been reported that actor Amanda Abbington, 52, is among those who have complained about him. She was partnered with Giovanni on Strictly last year but it was announced just weeks into the contest that she had withdrawn from it. She said at the time that she was “unable to continue” due to “personal reasons”.
Amanda – known for her roles in shows like Sherlock – later said that she was “diagnosed with mild PTSD after Strictly for several reasons”. She’s has since described her former dance partner Giovanni as “nasty” and “awful”.
Amid the apparent investigation underway at the BBC, an anonymous person is said to have asked for people in the industry to come forward if they have any experiences to share, with The Sun reporting this evening that the person is “a mystery pal of Amanda Abbingdon.”
According to the Sun, an anonymous member of the TV Mindset, a social media forum for TV industry workers, said on the forum: “It is important to hear as many accounts as possible from others who were treated inappropriately, had grievances, or potentially identify others that were. This is crucial in supporting Amanda’s case, as well as potentially anyone else’s. It is also ultimately to support all freelancers and the industry as a whole by standing up to such practices.”
The poster reportedly assured anyone coming forward: “Sources would be protected.” The outlet reports that an email for responses was given as [email protected] – which is believed to be short for ‘Strictly Come Dancing Allies’. Approached for comment on the anonymous social media user’s calls, a spokesperson for Amanda told us: “Whomever is doing this is outside of our knowledge. First time we are hearing about it.”
