TV chef Gino D’Acampo is facing increasing scrutiny after a woman came forward with claims about his past behavior,
branding him “crude and vile” for comments he allegedly made about presenter Holly Willoughby.
The woman, who remains anonymous, stated that she warned ITV about D’Acampo as early as 2018, but her concerns were dismissed.
The controversy has led to a deeper investigation into the chef’s conduct, uncovering multiple allegations against him.
While ITV has now pulled all of his shows, the network is facing mounting pressure to clarify what they knew and why no action was taken sooner.
Allegations Against D’Acampo
According to the woman, D’Acampo made inappropriate remarks regarding Willoughby and fellow presenter Fearne Cotton. She claimed he told her that people often asked him which of the two women he would rather sleep with. His alleged response was:
“If I could put the face of one on the body of the other then maybe, but I’d probably choose Holly because I’d have more fun with her.”
The woman expressed disgust at the remark, stating: “I was disgusted by what he said and how he behaved. He was crude and vile. He’s a vulgar cretin.”
Feeling deeply uncomfortable, she decided to raise her concerns with ITV executives, warning them about his behavior.
A Dismissed Warning
In 2018, the woman sent an email to ITV’s chief executive, Carolyn McCall, outlining her concerns. She wrote:
“He is certainly not a man reflecting integrity or honesty or family values. One day he will be outed by many, many more, and his associations will be running for the hills to disassociate themselves with him.”
Determined to ensure her concerns were heard, she also contacted other broadcasters, including the BBC, Channel 5, and production companies that had worked with D’Acampo. However, the response she received was not what she had hoped for.
Broadcasters’ Responses
The woman claims that both ITV and the BBC dismissed her complaints, arguing that because the alleged comments had not been made during the production of any particular show, they were not relevant to the networks. She stated:
“Both ITV and the BBC came back sharply, essentially telling me to go away. It hadn’t happened during the production of any show, therefore, it didn’t matter.”
She further accused ITV of being particularly harsh in their response, saying, “They were specifically horrid and even cast doubt on what I was saying. They were cowardly.”
Feeling disillusioned, she said she had since stopped watching television to avoid seeing D’Acampo, as it was a painful reminder of how her warnings had been ignored.
Dozens of Allegations Surface
In light of recent investigations, it has emerged that there are now multiple allegations against D’Acampo, many of which have yet to be fully disclosed. The growing controversy has forced ITV to pull all of his shows from its programming.
The scandal has also placed ITV under significant pressure to answer key questions, particularly regarding how long they have been aware of concerns surrounding D’Acampo and why they failed to act earlier.
D’Acampo’s Response and Broadcaster Statements
D’Acampo, 48, has “firmly denied” all allegations against him.
Channel 5 acknowledged that they were contacted in 2018 about a complaint concerning D’Acampo. However, they clarified that it did not relate to any conduct on a Channel 5 production or program.
The BBC, on the other hand, stated that it could not locate any record of the woman’s complaint.
Meanwhile, ITV has refused to comment on the matter, a move that has only fueled further speculation about what the network may have known.
Holly Willoughby Continues On-Screen Appearances
Despite being at the center of D’Acampo’s alleged comments, Holly Willoughby has not publicly addressed the controversy. She appeared on ITV’s Dancing on Ice on Sunday night alongside co-host Stephen Mulhern, continuing her professional commitments as usual.
Industry Reaction and Public Backlash
The resurfacing of these allegations has ignited a wave of backlash against ITV, with many questioning the broadcaster’s past handling of complaints. Critics argue that television networks must take allegations against high-profile figures more seriously rather than dismissing them simply because they occurred off-screen.
Meanwhile, social media has been flooded with reactions from viewers, many of whom have expressed disappointment in how broadcasters seemingly ignored concerns raised about D’Acampo years ago.
What Happens Next?
With ITV pulling D’Acampo’s shows and fresh allegations emerging, the controversy surrounding the celebrity chef is unlikely to fade anytime soon. The network is now under increasing pressure to explain its past decisions, while the industry as a whole faces renewed calls for greater accountability regarding misconduct allegations.
As the story continues to unfold, one key question remains—how many more allegations will come to light, and will the networks that once dismissed them finally take action?
