Emma Raducanu has spoken out following a disturbing incident during her match at the Dubai Tennis Championships, which left her visibly shaken.
The British tennis star encountered a distressing situation when a man exhibiting “fixated behavior” targeted her during the second-round match against Karolina Muchova.
The unsettling ordeal unfolded just two games into the match when Emma, 22,
sought refuge behind the umpire’s chair, signaling officials about the concerning presence in the audience.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) later confirmed that the same individual had approached Emma earlier in the tournament
and was again seen in the front rows during her match on Tuesday.
Security Steps In
Security personnel promptly intervened and removed the man from Court Three to ensure the safety of the young athlete. Despite the distressing experience, Raducanu demonstrated resilience, choosing to continue playing against Muchova, the tournament’s 14th seed. Her opponent also showed support during the unsettling moment.
Emma’s Response
Following the match, Emma took to Instagram on Wednesday night to express gratitude for the outpouring of support she received from fans.
“Thank you for the messages of support,” she wrote. “It was a difficult experience yesterday, but I’ll be okay. I’m proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened at the start of the match.”
She also extended her appreciation to Karolina Muchova, thanking her for being a great sport and wishing her success in the rest of the tournament.
Not the First Incident
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Raducanu has faced unsettling behavior. In 2022, a man walked 23 miles to her home in London, leaving unwanted gifts on her doorstep. Following this disturbing act, he was issued a five-year restraining order.
