BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden supports Shirley Ballas in ‘vital’ health admission

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has taken to social media to emphasize the importance of breast screenings, urging women to prioritize their health.

The 64-year-old shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, encouraging her followers to attend their NHS screening appointments.

Among those who supported her message was Strictly professional dancer Amy Dowden,

who has been open about her own battle with breast cancer.

Shirley’s Powerful Message on Breast Screenings

Shirley Ballas has joined a vital campaign to raise awareness about breast screenings, especially for women over 50.

New data has revealed that the number of women in England who are up to date with their screenings has reached a record high. However, Shirley is determined to ensure that even more women take this crucial step for their health.

In a video shared on Instagram, Shirley spoke directly to her followers, stressing the importance of early detection. She said, “To all women invited for NHS breast screenings, I am Shirley Ballas, head judge on Strictly Come Dancing. I am 64 years old and I think I am in pretty good health.”

Shirley went on to reveal that she has experienced several health scares related to cancer in the past, making this cause particularly close to her heart. She urged women not to delay their screenings due to busy schedules, emphasizing that making time for these appointments could be life-saving.

“I think it’s vital to be vigilant,” she continued. “Ladies, make sure you get there if you can. It might just save your life.”

Alongside the video, Shirley posted a photo of the handwritten letter she read out, further reinforcing her message. In the caption, she wrote, “I’m proud to support the @NHS breast screening campaign, encouraging women over 50 to attend their breast screening appointment when invited.”

Amy Dowden Shows Her Support

Among those who responded to Shirley’s message was Strictly dancer Amy Dowden, who has been vocal about her own experience with breast cancer. Amy, who was diagnosed in 2023, underwent a mastectomy and fertility treatment as part of her battle against the disease.

In the comments section of Shirley’s post, Amy shared her support with a pink heart and praying hands emoji—symbols of love and encouragement.

Amy has been dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Last year, she revealed that her own diagnosis came after she discovered a lump during a routine check. Her decision to seek medical advice early proved crucial in her treatment journey.

In February, Amy shared the uplifting news that her latest scans showed “no evidence of disease,” meaning she could return to Strictly Come Dancing. Despite this positive outcome, she has remained committed to using her platform to educate others about breast cancer awareness.

Amy’s Continued Advocacy for Cancer Awareness

Amy has been candid about the impact her diagnosis has had on her life, frequently sharing updates on her recovery with fans. She has spoken about the emotional and physical challenges of her journey while encouraging others to prioritize their health.

On World Cancer Day, Amy took to Instagram to share a moving post about her experience, writing, “Supporting those living with cancer, those supporting their loved ones affected by cancer, admiring the survivors, honoring those we have lost, and never, ever GIVING UP.”

Her words resonated with many, reinforcing the strength and resilience needed to face a cancer diagnosis.

Raising Awareness for a Vital Cause

Both Shirley and Amy have played significant roles in highlighting the importance of breast health. Shirley’s campaign aims to remind women not to put off their screening appointments, while Amy’s personal experience underscores how early detection can make a life-saving difference.

Their efforts have sparked conversations among fans, many of whom have expressed gratitude for their openness and advocacy. Shirley’s powerful message and Amy’s ongoing support demonstrate the importance of using public platforms to raise awareness about serious health issues.

With both women championing this crucial cause, the hope is that more women will take action and prioritize their well-being. Whether through routine screenings or self-checks, their message is clear: early detection saves lives.
