Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway feels ‘sick’ as she details ‘rage’ on air

During a recent episode of Good Morning Britain, presenter Kate Garraway became visibly emotional

while discussing the upcoming implementation of Raneem’s Law, a new initiative aimed at improving responses to domestic abuse victims.

The law, named in honor of Raneem Oudeh, a young woman tragically murdered alongside her mother in 2018 by an ex-partner,

seeks to introduce domestic abuse specialists into emergency call centers across England.

Kate Garraway Reacts to Heartbreaking Case

Kate Garraway and her co-host, Adil Ray, covered the latest headlines during Friday’s broadcast, with Raneem’s Law being a major topic of discussion.

The segment included a powerful interview with Raneem’s aunt, Nour Norris, who has been a vocal advocate for change since her niece’s tragic death.

Norris acknowledged that while the law would not bring back Raneem or her mother, it could serve as a beacon of hope for other victims of domestic abuse.

“It’s not going to bring them back. But at the same time, there are a lot of victims out there who are desperate for help, and they never used to get the help they deserve, just like Raneem. But today, hopefully, this hope will bring a light to their lives,” she said.

She emphasized the critical need for better systems to protect those at risk.

“We must have that system in place to support and help victims,” Norris stated.

Garraway, visibly moved by Norris’ words, expressed her own frustration and heartbreak over the failures that led to Raneem’s tragic fate.

“So powerful, the way you put it, and so graceful to have that, because when you hear that call, I feel an overwhelming sense of rage and frustration; I’m sure you do as well, and have done,” Garraway told Norris.

Listening to Raneem’s 999 Call Left Garraway Feeling ‘Sick’

During the segment, Good Morning Britain aired a distressing clip of one of Raneem Oudeh’s 999 calls on the night of her murder. In the recording, Raneem is heard pleading for help, expressing her fear that her ex-husband would return. The emergency operator advised her to go to her mother’s home and call again if he showed up.

Tragically, despite Raneem making a total of four calls to 999 that night, authorities failed to intervene in time. She and her mother were brutally murdered shortly after.

Garraway admitted that hearing the call, knowing how events unfolded, made her feel physically ill.

“That’s the problem when I’m calling, they’re not coming quickly,” Raneem said in the recording.

After hearing the chilling exchange, Garraway said, “I feel sick listening to that.”

She was not alone in her reaction. Many viewers took to social media to share their shock and sorrow over the case, with some calling for even stronger measures to ensure victims are heard and protected.

What Is Raneem’s Law?

In response to failures in the system that contributed to Raneem’s tragic death, Raneem’s Law aims to reform how emergency services handle domestic abuse calls. According to Gov.uk, the initiative will roll out across five police forces in England:

West Midlands

Northumbria

Northamptonshire

Bedfordshire

Humberside

The new law introduces domestic abuse specialists within 999 control rooms to ensure calls for help are assessed with the urgency they deserve.

A government statement on the initiative explains:

“These domestic abuse specialists will ensure that calls for help are properly assessed.”

MP Jess Phillips also weighed in on the importance of Raneem’s Law, emphasizing that the goal is to create a fundamental shift in how emergency call centers approach domestic abuse cases.

“What we hope to see is a cultural change within the call centres,” Phillips stated.

A Step Forward, But More Work to Be Done

While Raneem’s Law is a significant step in the right direction, domestic violence advocates stress that systemic change will take time. The introduction of specialists in 999 control rooms is a positive move, but many believe more reforms are needed to ensure every domestic abuse victim receives immediate and effective help.

Kate Garraway’s emotional response on Good Morning Britain reflects the broader public outrage over cases like Raneem’s. Her reaction—one of frustration, sickness, and anger—echoes what many feel when confronted with the reality of a system that has failed victims for too long.

For Garraway, Norris, and countless others who continue to fight for justice, the hope is that Raneem’s Law will prevent future tragedies and offer true protection to those who need it most.
