Harry Styles was left ‘devastated’ by SNL impression of him, star says

Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman is widely known for her spot-on celebrity impressions, but even the best comedians sometimes miss the mark.

The 36-year-old admitted that her attempt to impersonate Harry Styles was so bad that it left the singer visibly disappointed.

While speaking with Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of Chicken Shop Date, during SNL’s 50th anniversary special,

Fineman opened up about her struggle to perfect Styles’ British accent.

Despite her ability to nail other celebrity impressions, she confessed that the former One Direction star remains one of the few public figures she just “can’t crack.”

Harry Styles’ Heartbreaking Reaction

Fineman recalled an awkward moment when she attempted her Styles impression in front of him, only for the singer to look completely shattered by her efforts.

“I did it, and he was at the table, and he was so devastated by how bad it was,” she revealed.

In an attempt to redeem herself, Fineman tried once again during the interview, demonstrating her British accent by saying:

“Anyway, I’m Harry Styles, anyway.”

Her delivery, however, didn’t quite convince Dimoldenberg, who sarcastically quipped, “Sorry, is Harry in the room right now?”

Fans React to the “Painfully Bad” Impression

After the clip from the interview surfaced online, fans of Harry Styles were quick to weigh in on social media. Many agreed that Fineman’s attempt at mimicking the singer’s voice was, indeed, “horrific.”

“To be fair, that was horrific,” one user wrote, while another joked, “What even was that?” accompanied by crying emojis.

A third unimpressed fan added, “She is diabolical and should never ever try to copy him again.”

Harry Styles and SNL: A Longstanding Relationship

Although Styles and Fineman have never shared a live sketch together, the 31-year-old musician has a deep connection to Saturday Night Live. He made multiple appearances as a musical guest both as a solo artist and as a member of One Direction before taking on hosting duties in 2019.

His turn as both host and musical guest was widely praised, with cast member Cecily Strong calling him “from another planet where the most beautiful and talented beings exist.”

Fellow castmate Heidi Gardner also had nothing but good things to say, describing Styles as someone who “brought a lot of light to SNL” and was hilarious throughout the night.

Harry Styles’ Memorable SNL Hosting Gig

When Styles hosted SNL in November 2019, he charmed audiences with his natural comedic timing and self-deprecating humor. During his monologue, he joked about his relationship with the show, saying:

“It feels like when you find out someone likes you as more than just a friend. SNL and I have taken things to the next level. And just like all my serious relationships, we’re all going to spend one incredible night together and then we’ll never see each other again.”

He also poked fun at himself, making it clear that while he was excited to do comedy, his priority remained his music:

“It goes music, then comedy. Well, let’s be honest. It goes music, then fantastic hair, then comedy, then family, then friends. But ultimately, I’m a very serious musician.”

A History with SNL

Harry Styles’ connection to Saturday Night Live spans over a decade. He first appeared on the show with One Direction in 2012, returning again in 2013 and 2014. After embarking on his solo career, he performed as a musical guest in 2017 and again in 2019—the same night he hosted.

His ability to blend charm, humor, and talent has made him a fan favorite on the late-night comedy show, and his monologue even included playful jabs at SNL’s cast and production secrets.

“Did you know they put makeup on the boys too? That is funny. In fact, the makeup team is so talented, I’m actually Kate McKinnon,” he joked.

Styles also addressed long-standing rumors about SNL’s backstage culture:

“Everybody thinks the cast does a lot of cocaine. They don’t. That’s why the show’s not good anymore—except tonight.”

Chloe Fineman’s Impressions: Hit or Miss?

While her Harry Styles impression may have fallen flat, Fineman has built a reputation for her uncanny portrayals of celebrities. Since joining SNL in 2019, she has become known for mimicking stars like Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep with impressive accuracy.

Despite her struggles with Styles’ accent, her comedic talent remains undeniable. Perhaps with a little more practice, she might perfect her impression—but for now, fans (and Styles himself) might prefer she steer clear of attempting it again.

Chloe Fineman’s attempt at impersonating Harry Styles may have been a miss, but it has certainly provided fans with a hilarious moment to talk about. With her talent for impressions, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to shine on Saturday Night Live—just maybe not as Harry Styles anytime soon.
