George Clooney on Avoiding Friction in Marriage with Amal Clooney
George Clooney has spent decades in the spotlight, but when it comes to his marriage with Amal Clooney,
the actor and filmmaker says experience has taught him how to keep things harmonious.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the 63-year-old opened up about how being older and wiser has made his relationship with Amal,
47, “easy” compared to his younger years.
A Marriage Without Unnecessary Conflict
Clooney reflected on how his perspective has shifted over time, allowing him to avoid unnecessary arguments.
“There’s a thing about finding the person that you needed to find, particularly at a certain age, and everything from then on is easy,” he said.
The Ocean’s Eleven star explained that had he been younger, small disagreements may have escalated into larger conflicts. Using a humorous example from their home renovation, he shared:
“Amal would go, ‘I want to paint this wall yellow.’ If I was 27 years old and doing construction work, I would’ve been like, ‘Well, that’s a stupid color.’ But the truth of the matter is that at 60, you just go, ‘OK.’ There are so many things that would have caused friction that don’t.”
A Love Story That Began in Secret
George and Amal’s love story began in 2013 when they met at a dinner party at his Lake Como villa. The two quickly connected, and their relationship blossomed in private before they tied the knot in 2014.
In a past interview, Clooney recounted their first official date, which involved a visit to the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, where he was working on the soundtrack for Monuments Men.
“That was a good first date,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “Then we went for dinner. She said, ‘Let’s go to this place.’ It was one of those places that was incredibly hip and chic. And when we came out, there were 50 paparazzi there. But she handled it like a champ.”
Maintaining a Private Life
Despite being one of Hollywood’s most high-profile couples, George and Amal have taken deliberate steps to protect their privacy. They reside in a secluded English countryside home where they can enjoy a quiet life without much intrusion.
Amal once revealed that they prefer hosting at home rather than going out in public to avoid unwanted attention. Their peaceful lifestyle extends to their other properties, including a chateau in Brignoles, France, which they purchased in 2021.
A New Chapter in New York
Currently, the couple is residing in New York City as Clooney makes his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film he co-wrote, directed, and starred in.
With nearly a decade of marriage and their 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, growing up, George and Amal seem to have found the perfect balance between Hollywood fame and family harmony.
