Holly Willoughby is embracing a fresh start following a challenging period in both her personal and professional life.
The Dancing on Ice presenter has faced significant upheaval over the past couple of years,
including her departure from This Morning in October 2023 and the harrowing experience of being targeted in a terrifying kidnap plot.
Now, 18 months later, Holly is focused on moving forward, taking on exciting new projects, and prioritizing her well-being.
A Career Shift and a Fresh Perspective
After the shocking revelation that security guard Gavin Plumb had planned to kidnap, rape, and murder her, Holly understandably took a step back from television.
However, she has since returned to screens with a renewed sense of purpose. In the wake of Phillip Schofield’s departure from ITV following his admission of an inappropriate affair, Holly remained with the network but transitioned into new roles.
She now co-hosts Dancing on Ice alongside Stephen Mulhern, stepping into a new dynamic following years of working with Phillip. Additionally, she has ventured into solo presenting with Netflix’s latest series, Celebrity Bear Hunt, where she teams up with adventurer Bear Grylls.
Speaking at the show’s premiere earlier this month, Holly, 44, reflected on her journey. “All I’ve learned out of life is you never know what’s around the corner,” she said. “So, I’m like, one day at a time, one step at a time, just like in the jungle.”
Her return to public events marks a significant moment for the TV star, as it was her first promotional appearance since Plumb’s sentencing. He received three life sentences, each with a minimum term of 15 years and 85 days, for plotting against her.
A New Adventure with Bear Grylls
Taking on Celebrity Bear Hunt has been a bold new chapter for Holly, pushing her out of her comfort zone. The adventure series required her to spend three weeks filming in Costa Rica, leaving behind her husband, TV producer Dan Baldwin, and their three children—Harry, 15, Belle, 13, and Chester, 10.
“My kids are that little bit older now, so it felt like the right time that I could do it,” she explained. “The wheels weren’t going to fall off my life if I left home.”
Holly’s enthusiasm for trying something different was clear as she spoke about the experience. “Sometimes it’s nice to be out of your comfort zone,” she said. “I’ve never been to Central America before, so this just felt like the right thing to do at the right time.”
Moving Forward After a Difficult Year
Beyond her professional shifts, Holly and her family have also made significant changes in their personal lives. In July 2024, she and Dan purchased a new home, reportedly worth £8 million, which they spent months renovating before moving in. Given the trauma of the foiled kidnap attempt, the couple prioritized security, installing high-tech safety systems and choosing not to share any images of their home online.
Speaking to The Times about the emotional toll of the past year, Holly admitted that nothing could have prepared her for what she went through. “It’s been a tough one. There’s no way of sugar-coating it,” she said.
She described the decision she faced in the aftermath of the ordeal: “When something like that happens, you have a decision to make. You either decide, right, I can take this on board, and it can absolutely affect all aspects of my life. Or I can make a choice to go, let’s focus on everything that’s positive and good, all those important things.”
The Fallout from Phillip Schofield’s Scandal
Holly’s departure from This Morning came just six months after Phillip Schofield’s resignation amid controversy over his secret relationship with a younger colleague. At the time, Holly admitted she found it “very hurtful” that Phillip had lied to her about the situation.
Phillip later confessed that losing Holly as a friend had been one of the most painful aspects of the scandal. In a 2023 interview with The Sun, he stated: “I’ve lost my best friend. I let her down.” He revealed that he had sent Holly an apology text but acknowledged, “She didn’t reply, and I understand why she didn’t.”
Despite the controversy, Holly maintained her close friendships with other members of the This Morning team. At the National Television Awards in September 2024, she was warmly reunited with her former colleagues. Fellow host Josie Gibson praised Holly, calling her “one of the greatest broadcasters of all time” and admitting that the team “miss her terribly.”
Looking to the Future
Now, with new projects under her belt and a fresh outlook on life, Holly is determined to focus on the positives. While the past few years have been marked by personal and professional upheaval, she has chosen resilience over fear, stepping into new opportunities with optimism.
By taking each day as it comes, embracing exciting career changes, and prioritizing her family’s safety and happiness, Holly Willoughby is proving that even after the darkest times, a new chapter is always possible.
