Savannah Guthrie is one of the most recognizable faces on morning television,
but to her two children, she’s simply “mom.”
The Today show co-anchor shares her daughter, Vale, 10, and son, Charley, 8, with her husband, Michael Feldman.
As they grow older, it’s clear that both kids are stepping into the spotlight in their own way,
even showing early signs of following in their mother’s journalistic footsteps.
Meet Savannah’s Daughter, Vale Guthrie Feldman
Savannah and Michael welcomed their first child, Vale, on August 13, 2014, when Savannah was 42. Becoming a mother later in life brought its own set of challenges, and Savannah has spoken candidly about the vulnerability that came with it.
“We had our kids late,” she shared on Hoda Kotb’s Making Space podcast. “You know, you go through life, you have your ups and downs, your heart breaks a few dozen times. You get some scar tissue. I was so totally vulnerable to them. Because I knew … if anything happened to them, I would not be OK. And it was terrifying.”
Now, at 10 years old, Vale is showing just how much she takes after her mom. She shares Savannah’s love for the Olympics and gymnastics and is also a devoted Taylor Swift fan. In fact, Vale attended Swift’s Eras Tour with her mom, and when Savannah dressed up as the pop star for Today’s Halloween show, Vale joined her on stage to dance.
Vale also seems to have inherited her mom’s interest in journalism. She recently sat down for a special Today segment, where she interviewed Savannah about her children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You. Vale even participated in a panel discussion as part of her mom’s book tour in February, proving that she has a natural presence in front of the camera.
Meet Savannah’s Son, Charley Guthrie Feldman
Savannah and Michael welcomed their second child, Charles “Charley” Max Guthrie Feldman, on December 8, 2016, just a few weeks before Savannah’s own birthday. His arrival was particularly special because Savannah went through IVF to conceive him.
“I was 42 when I had [Vale]. So I never dreamed that I would have two,” Savannah told Health magazine in 2019. “But with Charley, I did do IVF. So I would say Vale was a miracle, and Charley was a medical miracle.”
At eight years old, Charley is known for his high energy and fun-loving personality. Savannah has described him as a “little firecracker” who “lights up my heart.” Like his sister, Charley shares a love of sports, especially football. The entire Guthrie-Feldman family are Philadelphia Eagles fans, and Charley was even on set when quarterback Jalen Hurts visited Today after winning Super Bowl LIX.
Charley has also developed an appreciation for Taylor Swift. He, too, attended the Eras Tour with his family, making it clear that Swift fandom is a shared household tradition.
Vale and Charley’s Growing Role in the Spotlight
While both kids are still young, they’ve already had plenty of experience in the media world. They’ve made appearances at Studio 1A, and most recently, Charley helped out as a production assistant during his mom’s book tour.
Whether it’s journalism, sports, or music, Vale and Charley have no shortage of interests. But one thing is clear—they are growing up surrounded by love, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities to explore their passions. While Savannah is a seasoned journalist and TV personality, her most important role will always be being a mom to these two bright and ambitious kids.
