David Beckham has revealed new details about the serious back injury he suffered in 2011 while playing for LA Galaxy,
an incident that contributed to his retirement from professional football in 2013.
As he prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday, the former England captain also posed for a daring new photoshoot with Men’s Health UK,
showcasing his impressive physique and sharing insights into how he stays in top shape.
Beckham’s Hidden Battle with a Devastating Injury
During his time playing and living in Los Angeles, Beckham sustained a severe spinal injury that initially went undiagnosed.
Despite experiencing ongoing pain after a match, medical scans failed to reveal any significant issues.
However, Beckham persisted in seeking answers, convinced that something was seriously wrong.
“I actually broke my back. I was living in LA and cracked my spine,” Beckham shared. “I had pain after a game, I went for a scan and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I was insisting there was something not right there – I could feel it.”
His concerns were finally validated when doctors injected dye into the affected area, revealing the extent of the injury. “It was a bad one,” he admitted, though he continued to push himself through the pain before ultimately retiring from the sport two years later.
Staying Fit at 49: Beckham’s Secret to Aging Well
Despite the setbacks from his football career, Beckham remains committed to maintaining his fitness. As he approaches 50, he claims to feel better than he has in years. His regimen includes daily workouts and playing padel—a sport similar to tennis—three times a week.
Beckham often trains alongside his wife, Victoria Beckham, in their home gym. Although he enjoys their workout sessions together, he humorously admits that he gives her a hard time during training.
“I love training with Victoria, but I give her a lot of grief,” he joked.
When asked if he’s concerned about turning 50, Beckham responded with confidence. “It doesn’t bother me one bit,” he said. “As long as I’m fit and healthy and my family is healthy, that’s all I care about. I’m really happy. I’ve got the business and an amazing family. My kids are all working hard, and they’ve all got passions, and that’s what’s important to me.”
Beckham and Victoria, who have been married since 1999, share four children: Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13.
A Bold Photoshoot That Has Fans Talking
As part of his feature for Men’s Health UK, Beckham participated in a striking new photoshoot, promoting BOSS underwear. The campaign follows his highly talked-about risqué shoot in January, proving that the football icon still knows how to command attention.
In the latest images, Beckham confidently models pieces from the new BOSS ONE Bodywear collection, showcasing his sculpted physique and tattooed torso. The collection features premium-quality men’s underwear essentials, including trunks, briefs, tank tops, and T-shirts in minimalist black and white hues.
Daniel Grieder, CEO of HUGO BOSS, praised the collaboration with Beckham, stating, “The launch of the BOSS ONE Bodywear collection marks another milestone and a new chapter in our long-term strategic partnership with David Beckham. It is also a testament to our joint dedication to style and excellence.”
A promotional video for the campaign, set to Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight, shows Beckham walking with confidence while giving an intense stare to the camera. The clip quickly gained attention online, with fans flooding the comments with admiration.
“Sir, you’re aging like a fine wine,” one fan commented, while another added, “You’ve still got it, David.” Some even suggested he could be the next James Bond, with one writing, “New Bond film looks good!”
Still Making an Impact
Even after retiring from professional football, Beckham continues to be a major influence in the worlds of sports, fashion, and business. His disciplined approach to fitness, coupled with his ability to reinvent himself, keeps him in the public eye.
