Kelly Ripa Wishes Her “Newborn” 22-Year-Old Son Joaquin A Happy Birthday On ‘Live’: “I’m In Denial About It”

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had a special moment on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning

as they celebrated the 22nd birthday of their youngest child, Joaquin Consuelos.

The proud parents took a moment at the beginning of the show to honor their son, reminiscing about his journey from childhood to adulthood.

A Special Birthday Shoutout

As the show kicked off, Ripa made sure to acknowledge their son’s big day with a heartfelt birthday wish.

“Hey wait a minute, before we start the show, we want to say a very happy 22nd birthday to our newborn baby, Joaquin Consuelos,” she announced, her voice filled with affection and nostalgia.

Consuelos, ever the loving father, turned to his wife and playfully asked, “How do you feel?”

With a hint of emotion, Ripa admitted, “I’m in denial about it.”

Despite her disbelief at how quickly time has passed, the couple couldn’t help but express their pride in Joaquin, who has grown into an accomplished young man balancing both academics and athletics at the University of Michigan.

A Weekend of Celebrations in Ann Arbor

The co-hosts revealed that they spent the weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan, celebrating Joaquin’s birthday with the entire family. But the weekend wasn’t just about birthday cake and gifts—it was also packed with two major milestones for their son.

“He was in a production of A Few Good Men at the University of Michigan this weekend, which was extraordinary,” Ripa shared, beaming with pride over his theatrical performance.

But the festivities didn’t stop at the theater. The couple had to quickly transition from one important event to another.

“And then it was senior night for the wrestling team… We had a tale of two completely different experiences,” Ripa added.

A Quick Costume Change for Mom

As a devoted mother, Ripa made sure she didn’t miss a single moment of either event. She humorously recalled how she had to pull off a rapid outfit change between the two celebrations.

“I did a quick change in the car from my theater clothes into my wrestling mom clothes,” she laughed, emphasizing the drastic shift in environment from a dramatic stage performance to a high-energy wrestling match.

Consuelos, who has always been supportive of their son’s wrestling journey, described the significance of senior night, where graduating athletes are honored.

“They have an intermission—half time,” he explained, to which Ripa playfully chimed in, teasing that everything in their world felt like being backstage at a production.

“We went backstage at the sports arena, I guess which is called the locker room,” she quipped. “So we were backstage, and then we went onstage, which would be on the [mat].”

Joaquin’s Dual Talents Impress His Parents

As the co-hosts reflected on the weekend, they marveled at their son’s ability to juggle two very different passions—acting and wrestling.

Consuelos acknowledged how surreal it must have been for Joaquin to shift from performing on stage to competing on the mat in the same weekend.

Ripa humorously noted, “I just made sure he took his makeup off before he went over. It’s not very threatening when you’re in full theater makeup.”

The segment concluded with the couple proudly sharing pictures from the weekend, showing Joaquin in both his theater and wrestling environments. They took a moment to praise his dedication, applauding his ability to manage the demanding schedules of both a Division I athlete and a committed theater performer.

A Proud Parenting Moment

For Ripa and Consuelos, this birthday celebration was more than just a milestone—it was a testament to the hardworking, multi-talented young man Joaquin has become. Balancing theater and wrestling at a high level is no small feat, and their pride was evident as they spoke about his accomplishments.

As their youngest child continues to make strides in both his academic and athletic careers, it’s clear that Ripa and Consuelos will always be his biggest supporters—cheering him on from the sidelines, whether that’s at a play or a wrestling match.
