Former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star opens up about being sexually abused by scout group leaders when he was younger

Iain Lee, the well-known broadcaster and former host of The Eleven O’Clock Show, h

as courageously shared his harrowing experiences of sexual abuse as a child at the hands of scout group leaders.

Now 51, Lee has detailed the traumatic events that took place

when he was just nine years old, shedding light on the abuse he and other young scouts endured during camping trips.

Recalling the disturbing incidents, Lee described how he was coerced into stripping naked and subjected to degrading acts,

such as being ordered to jump up and down while tennis balls were thrown at him.

He also revealed that he and other children were made to roll around in mud without clothing. According to Lee, the scoutmasters manipulated the young boys by informing them that part of their annual camping trip in the New Forest, Hampshire, would involve spending time naked both inside and outside the hut. Shockingly, he claimed that parents had been made aware of this and had given their consent, leading him to believe there was no point in reporting the abuse since the adults already knew.

Lee had previously disclosed that he was sexually abused by a scoutmaster during his 2018 Channel 5 documentary, Me and My Mental Health, but he had never spoken in such detail about the traumatic events until now. He has expressed hope that by sharing his story, others who were part of the same scout group in Slough, Berkshire, during the late 1970s and early 1980s might find the strength to come forward with their own experiences. By doing so, he hopes to uncover the full extent of the abuse and potentially hold those responsible accountable.

The emotional toll of the abuse has had a lasting impact on Lee’s mental health. He revealed that the trauma led him to take antidepressants and even consider suicide. His struggles with depression have been long and challenging, but speaking out has been a significant step in his healing process.

Lee was a member of a Cub Scout group on the Britwell estate in Slough and recalled that when he joined, he was younger than the usual age for new recruits. However, he was told that a special exception would be made for him. Looking back, he believes this was part of a sinister effort to lure vulnerable children into an unsafe environment.

Having transitioned into a career as a mental health counselor, Lee is now dedicated to supporting others who have faced similar experiences. By sharing his own painful story, he hopes to encourage survivors of abuse to speak out, seek help, and ultimately find justice.

The revelations made by Lee underscore the importance of safeguarding children in youth organizations and ensuring that those in positions of trust are held accountable. His bravery in speaking out serves as a reminder that abuse survivors deserve to be heard and supported, and that justice must be pursued for those who have suffered in silence for too long.
