ITV Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford issues plea to viewers as she shares health update

Ruth Langsford used her platform on Loose Women to address the importance of skin health during a live broadcast on February 24, 2025.

The ITV presenter, known for her candid discussions on personal well-being,

encouraged viewers to take better care of their skin and seek medical advice if they notice any unusual changes.

The segment not only highlighted the significance of skin care but also featured Ruth’s own personal health scare, as she opened up about a recent mole check.

The Loose Women panel, consisting of Ruth, Janet Street-Porter, Denise Welch, and Coleen Nolan, tackled several hot topics on the day’s episode.

Among the issues discussed were rising energy prices and the responsibilities of tech giants to address online abuse.

However, it was the segment on skin health that captured the audience’s attention the most.

Ruth kicked off the conversation by stressing the importance of paying close attention to one’s skin, especially when it comes to potential health issues that may be hidden beneath the surface.

“We will be talking about skin today. Are you taking care of it? Any change in your condition could be an indication that there is something else going on in your body,” Ruth said, setting the tone for the discussion. She further emphasized that dermatologists have raised concerns about the public’s general lack of attention to skin health, warning that many people fail to properly assess their skin for any changes, which could be critical in detecting underlying health problems.

Ruth’s words struck a chord with the audience as she reminded viewers that looking after one’s skin is not just about vanity, but about health. “Dermatologists are warning we are all guilty of not taking enough time to really look at our skin and therefore look after ourselves,” she noted.

The conversation then took a personal turn when Ruth shared her own experiences with skin care and health. She openly discussed a recent mole check that she had undergone, reassuring viewers that there was no cause for concern. “I’ve just had a little thing done here this week but it’s nothing to worry about because it’s been checked,” Ruth said, touching her skin as she explained.

Reflecting on her past approach to health, Ruth admitted that she didn’t always prioritize skin care when she was younger. “When I was younger, you kind of ignored things and you never thought about it,” she confessed. “But definitely as I’ve gotten older – I go twice a year to get my moles checked.” Ruth revealed that her childhood, spent moving around the world due to her father’s military career, meant frequent exposure to the sun, and that sunscreen wasn’t always a priority at the time.

Her honesty about her past attitudes towards health was a powerful message for viewers, urging them to be more proactive in monitoring their skin. Ruth shared how her awareness about the risks of sun exposure has grown as she’s aged. “When we were young, we didn’t know the dangers of sunbathing,” she explained. “I remember sunscreen being around but not smothering it on.”

Ruth’s personal story served as a reminder of the importance of skin checks and early detection. She urged viewers to get any skin changes checked by a professional, especially if they were worried about a potential issue. “Please go and have anything checked that you are worried about,” Ruth implored. She highlighted several signs to watch for, including blue skin, which could indicate poor circulation, yellowish skin that might point to liver problems, and thickening or hardening of the skin, which could be related to diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney issues.

Coleen Nolan, another panellist on the show, lightened the mood with a playful comment, mentioning that Ruth had appeared “green” earlier in the broadcast. Ruth responded with humor, explaining that it was likely due to the early start and her body’s reaction to the morning.

Ruth’s candid sharing of her own health scare and her push for viewers to take their skin health seriously made for a compelling and informative segment. In a world where many people are unaware of the early signs of serious health conditions, Ruth’s appeal served as a wake-up call to the importance of skin checks and overall self-care.

In addition to the important health conversation, the Loose Women panel also tackled other topics of the day. However, Ruth’s impassioned plea for skin health will likely resonate with viewers long after the show’s airing. As the episode wrapped up, Ruth’s words reminded everyone that taking care of one’s body is vital at every stage of life, and regular check-ups can make all the difference when it comes to early detection of health problems.
