at Deeley Claps Back After Ben Shephard Highlights Viewer Backlash on This Morning
Cat Deeley wasted no time in shutting down online critics on This Morning today
(February 25) after co-host Ben Shephard brought up complaints from viewers.
The ITV daytime show returned to screens after a brief break, with Cat and Ben back in the hosting seats.
As usual, the program featured a variety of segments, including a cooking demonstration by resident chef Phil Vickery.
However, what should have been a routine part of the show quickly became a talking point after Ben addressed negative comments from viewers.
Ben Shephard Addresses Online Criticism
As Phil prepared what he described as the “perfect” omelette, he plated it up for the hosts to taste.
While enjoying the dish, Ben took a moment to bring up feedback from viewers who had criticized their presenting style.
“I was told off yesterday online,” Ben remarked, catching Cat’s attention. Curious, she asked, “Why?”
Ben then revealed: “Someone said, ‘Can we stop talking so much and let the chefs do their thing?’”
This comment was in reference to the ongoing complaints that This Morning hosts frequently interrupt guest chefs during their cooking segments.
Cat Deeley’s Defiant Response
Rather than being fazed by the criticism, Cat was quick to dismiss it with a firm response. Without hesitation, she declared: “The answer is no!”
Ben, appearing amused by her confidence, added: “I said I’ll just do eating.”
Cat then quipped, “And I’ll pass the message onto Deeley,” referencing herself in the third person before sharing a laugh with her co-host.
Viewers Frustrated Over Cooking Segments
The criticism Ben mentioned is not new for This Morning. Just last week, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary faced similar backlash for repeatedly talking over a guest chef during their segment.
During a cooking demonstration, author and food expert Suzanne Mulholland, known as The Batch Lady, was guiding viewers through a chicken tikka recipe. However, her instructions were frequently interrupted by Alison and Dermot’s chatter.
Viewers voiced their frustration on social media, pointing out that the constant interruptions made it difficult to follow the recipe. Some even called for the presenters to take a step back and allow the chefs to lead their segments without interference.
Will the Hosts Take the Criticism Seriously?
Despite the growing feedback from viewers, Cat’s response suggests that at least some of This Morning’s hosts are not planning to change their approach. While some may appreciate the presenters’ playful interactions, others believe they should allow chefs to demonstrate their recipes without too much interruption.
As debates continue, it remains to be seen whether the team at This Morning will adjust their style or, as Cat put it, simply carry on as usual.
One thing is certain—whether it’s Cat and Ben or Alison and Dermot, the This Morning hosts know how to keep viewers talking.
