Bozoma Saint John, known for her dynamic presence both in the business world and on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,

recently opened up about her deeply personal fertility journey.
The 48-year-old marketing executive and reality TV star admitted that she was initially hesitant about sharing such an intimate part of her life with the public.
However, she has since found strength and solidarity in the shared experiences of other women who have faced similar struggles.

Facing Public Scrutiny

At the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles on February 27, Saint John candidly discussed her initial concerns about revealing her fertility journey.

“The thing is that when you open yourself up in such a vulnerable way, people can have judgment on it — and so there’s criticism,” she explained.
She acknowledged that some people question her age, her past experiences with pregnancy complications, and even her relationship. “There are so many things that people have opinions on,” she said, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on her own reasons for pursuing motherhood again rather than being swayed by external voices.
Despite the scrutiny, Saint John has chosen to push forward, motivated by her own desires and beliefs. “For me, it’s been a very tough exercise in making sure that I know the reasons why I’m doing something,” she shared. “And just stick to that, and not worry about what everybody else thinks.”
Finding Strength in Shared Experiences
Saint John has been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming support she has received since sharing her journey. Women who have gone through similar fertility struggles have reached out, offering words of encouragement and their own stories. “That has been the best part really, honestly. And it’s the reason why I feel so comfortable in doing it,” she noted. The sense of community that has emerged from her openness has reinforced her decision to share her story.

During a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Saint John reflected on the difficulties she has faced with pregnancy. She revealed that before giving birth to her now 15-year-old daughter, Lael, she experienced a heartbreaking pregnancy loss. “The experiences of pregnancy have not been easy for me,” she admitted.
Saint John recounted that her first pregnancy, which was unplanned, ended in tragedy. Five months in, she was diagnosed with early-stage preeclampsia, a condition that causes high blood pressure and can endanger both the mother and the baby. “My baby didn’t survive,” she revealed. At six-and-a-half months, she was hospitalized due to high blood pressure, leading to the devastating loss of her child, Eve.
Determined to become a mother, she quickly made the decision to try again, and soon after, she welcomed her daughter Lael into the world. Now, she and her boyfriend, Keely Watson, are attempting to have a child together. However, Saint John acknowledges the challenges that come with trying to conceive at this stage in her life. “I am 15 years older than the last [time] I had this issue. I need some assurances, and I don’t know how to get that,” she admitted. The uncertainty surrounding her journey has made it a deeply emotional process.
Dealing with Devastation Beyond Fertility
In addition to navigating the complexities of fertility, Saint John has faced another devastating loss—her home. The reality star recently confirmed that her house was completely destroyed in the Los Angeles fires. While speaking at the ESSENCE event, she described the profound emotional toll it has taken on her.

“I think people get confused because they’re like, ‘Oh, it’s your second home and therefore it’s fine. You should be okay because you have a place to live,’” she said. “I’m like, ‘Are you completely out of your mind?’” She emphasized that the loss of her home was more than just losing a structure—it represented years of hard work and dedication. “It’s my home. I worked for it. Nobody gave it to me. Nobody was just like, ‘Oh, here’s the key to this fabulous house.’ It’s like, no, I worked blood, sweat, and tears for 25 years for that house. And so for it to go, it’s a devastation that I can’t actually articulate.”
Moving Forward with Strength
Despite these hardships, Saint John continues to push forward, drawing strength from her own resilience and the support of those around her. Her journey through fertility struggles and personal loss serves as a testament to her unwavering determination. While she acknowledges the difficulties, she remains hopeful and committed to the future she envisions for herself.
Through her openness, Saint John has not only provided insight into her own life but has also given a voice to countless other women facing similar challenges. By sharing her story, she is fostering a conversation that many find difficult to have, proving that vulnerability can be a source of empowerment.
