Al Roker’s Today Show co-hosts left repulsed by star following his latest interview

Al Roker sparked a lively debate—and some disgust—among his Today Show co-hosts after an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The veteran weatherman, who was promoting his latest cookbook, Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By:

Easy, Memory-Making Family Dishes for Every Occasion,

found himself at the center of a culinary controversy that had both Colbert and his morning show colleagues raising their eyebrows.

Shrimp Controversy Takes Center Stage

During his interview with Stephen Colbert, Al proudly discussed his cookbook, which was published in October last year.

The book, a collaborative effort with his daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, aims to bring families together through cherished recipes passed down through generations.

Colbert was quick to praise the cookbook, calling it “a beautiful book” and urging viewers to buy a copy.

However, the conversation took a humorous yet critical turn when the late-night host pointed out a particular recipe that left him baffled—Shrimp Tikka Masala.

While Colbert acknowledged the dish’s appeal, he took issue with one key detail: the shrimp still had their tails on. Expressing his confusion, he held up the page and asked, “What the hell, Al Roker! Why do you put tails on shrimp in a sauce?”

Al Roker Defends His Culinary Choices

Unfazed by the criticism, Al pointed to the cover of his book, where another shrimp dish featured prominently—with tails intact. He stood by his decision, arguing that the tails serve a purpose. “It’s a handle. You pick them up,” he explained.

Colbert, however, wasn’t convinced. He challenged Al’s logic, insisting, “You don’t eat shrimp with your hands!” The debate continued with Colbert humorously likening shrimp tails to “toenail clippings” and joking that the decision had “destroyed” an otherwise fantastic cookbook.

Al remained firm in his stance, encouraging Colbert to try eating shrimp with his hands. “Sure you do! You should try it, it’s so good,” he insisted. Despite the lighthearted exchange, Colbert concluded with mock disappointment, stating, “You disappoint me, Al Roker.”

Today Show Co-Hosts React in Horror

The next morning, Al’s Today Show co-hosts reacted to the interview with a mix of amusement and shock. As they watched the clip, Laura Jarrett, Willie Geist, and Kaylee Hartung couldn’t hide their reactions.

Laura was particularly skeptical, questioning Al’s decision to leave the tails on in a dish like Tikka Masala, which is traditionally eaten with a fork or spoon. “In a Tikka Masala especially, right? In all the sauce?” she asked, seemingly baffled.

Al, still amused by the controversy, defended himself by saying, “There’s more flavor in the tails.” He further argued that removing the tails is a simple step: “Is that such a big deal? You take your fork, you take it off, then you eat it.”

Willie Geist came to Al’s defense, stating that it’s his cookbook, so he should prepare the dish however he likes. However, Kaylee Hartung sided with Colbert, making her stance clear: “I’m sorry, I fall on Stephen’s side here.”

A Debate That’s Anything but Shrimp-Sized

The debate over shrimp tails may seem minor, but it sparked a broader conversation about food preparation and dining etiquette. While some diners prefer shrimp with the tails on for presentation and added flavor, others find it inconvenient—especially in a saucy dish like Tikka Masala.

For Al, the controversy appears to be all in good fun. Known for his humor and easygoing nature, he took the criticism in stride and even seemed to enjoy the lively discussion.

Despite the debate, one thing remains clear—Al Roker’s cookbook has people talking. Whether fans agree with his shrimp philosophy or not, the book offers a variety of cherished family recipes designed to bring loved ones together. And if nothing else, it has certainly sparked a memorable conversation on the Today Show.
