With Hoda Kotb having officially left the Today show, speculation has been swirling about whether her former co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, will follow suit. 

Guthrie, who has been a staple of NBC’s morning lineup for over a decade, recently addressed the rumors and revealed where she stands on her future with the network.

In a candid interview, Guthrie made it clear that she is content with her current role on Today. 

“What I know now is that I have the best job with the best people, both on camera and behind the scenes,” she shared. 

“We’re doing important work and [it’s] fun. Who knows what the future holds? I’m open, but I’m pretty darn happy.”

Her response suggests that she has no immediate plans to leave Today, despite the shakeup caused by Kotb’s departure. 

Guthrie, who now co-anchors the show with Craig Melvin, remains a central figure in the program’s lineup.

A Steady Presence at Today

Guthrie’s career at NBC began in 2007 when she joined the network as a correspondent. Over the years, she steadily climbed the ranks, becoming co-host of Today’s 9 a.m. hour in 2011. The following year, she moved into a more prominent position as co-anchor of the main show alongside Matt Lauer. When Lauer was dismissed in 2018, Hoda Kotb stepped in as his replacement, and she and Guthrie quickly became a beloved duo.

“I texted [Hoda recently] and was like, ‘Are you still getting up at this hour?’ And she writes back, ‘Yes,’” Guthrie recalled. She added that while Kotb may miss her colleagues, she is genuinely happy with her decision to move on.

Guthrie also shared that she received the news of Kotb’s departure while traveling overseas for a wedding. “I said to my husband, ‘Hoda wants to call me, and she knows I’m at the airport. This can’t be good,'” she revealed. At that moment, she suspected that Kotb’s call was to break the news about her leaving the show.

The Dynamic at Today Without Kotb

With Kotb gone, the Today team has adjusted to a slightly new lineup. Guthrie continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the show’s tone and chemistry. When describing the dynamic among her colleagues, she explained, “I probably have a big sister vibe [on Today]. Carson [Daly] is my mischievous little brother, and Craig is the cool brother who explains what’s going on with the game and has big opinions. We all know Al [Roker] is the wild uncle. Hoda was certainly our cheerleader.”

It’s evident that Guthrie values the relationships she has built with her co-workers, and that camaraderie is part of what keeps her invested in the show.

What’s Next for Savannah Guthrie?

Although Guthrie has expressed happiness with her role at Today, she remains open to future opportunities. However, for now, it seems fans can rest easy—she has no imminent plans to step away from the show.
