George Clooney is gearing up for a major transformation—one that his wife, Amal Clooney, isn’t exactly thrilled about. 

The 63-year-old actor, known for his signature salt-and-pepper hair, is preparing for his highly anticipated Broadway debut in Good Night, 

and Good Luck, but his role requires him to turn back the clock with a drastic change in appearance.

As part of his preparation for the play, Clooney will be dying his hair jet black, 

a decision he admits his wife and their seven-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, are not on board with. 

Speaking in a recent interview, the Hollywood star humorously shared that Amal is likely to “hate” the new look, while his children will probably find it hilarious.

A New Chapter: Clooney’s Broadway Debut

The upcoming production of Good Night, and Good Luck marks a significant moment in Clooney’s career. The play is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2005 film of the same name, which he co-wrote, directed, and starred in. While he originally played the role of producer Fred W. Friendly in the film, the Broadway version will see him take on the lead role of journalist Edward R. Murrow.

Set to begin previews on March 12, the show will officially open on April 3 at the Winter Garden Theatre and run until June 8. Despite his decades of experience in Hollywood, Clooney admitted that stepping onto the Broadway stage is an intimidating challenge.

“I’m terrified of it,” he confessed. “Are you kidding? I’m doing 11 monologues. When you get older, your recall isn’t the same.”

Reflecting on his earlier years in the industry, he recalled his time on ER, where he had to memorize extensive medical dialogue daily. “When I was doing ER, it was 12 pages of medical dialogue. You look at it in the morning and say, ‘OK, let’s go!’ Now, you get older and you’re going, ‘What’s wrong with me? Well, don’t drink any wine tonight.'”

A Transformation That’s Not Winning Over Amal

As Clooney prepares for his Broadway role, one of the most noticeable changes will be his hair. The star’s naturally graying locks have long been part of his distinguished look, but to better fit his character, he’s opting for a younger appearance. However, he acknowledges that this particular transformation is not a favorite among his family.

“My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair,” Clooney joked. “My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop.”

“When I turned 60, I told Amal, ‘Look, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. But in 30 years, I’ll be 90. That’s a real number. My dad just hit that.'”

This realization has motivated Clooney to prioritize making meaningful memories with his wife and children. “We have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that we’re jamming in everything we can,” he explained. “Not just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, ‘God, I wish I worked more.'”

Despite the natural challenges that come with getting older, Clooney credits his children for keeping him young at heart.

A Rock and Roll Household

While Clooney may be busy with his Broadway debut, he still makes time to connect with his kids in fun and unexpected ways. One of their favorite activities? Listening to heavy metal music together on the way to school.

“I make them listen to heavy metal because I just like it when they sing,” he revealed. He also shared that his daughter, Ella, has taken a liking to emotional ballads. “She loves Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For? and Harry Nilsson’s Without You—but they’re happy kids, so I’m really lucky.”

As Clooney prepares to step into this new phase of his career, all eyes will be on his Broadway performance.
