Why Steph Curry Says His Dunk During Warriors-76ers Game ‘Will Probably Be My Last’

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry shocked fans with an electrifying dunk during a matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on March 1, 2025.

The unexpected slam had the crowd on its feet, but the 36-year-old NBA champion quickly made it clear that this rare highlight might never happen again.

“That will probably be my last dunk,” Curry admitted in a post-game interview. “I’m calling it right now.

That was the last one you’re going to see.”

The game, which ended in a 126-119 victory for the 76ers, was filled with exciting moments, but Curry’s dunk stood out—not just because of its rarity,

but because it required every ounce of effort from the veteran point guard.

A Dunk Years in the Making

Curry is known for his legendary shooting ability rather than his aerial skills, so his dunk was an unexpected sight. When asked about his previous in-game dunk, he was quick to recall the details.

“Six years ago. At home. Right wing. The right corner. A little back cut. I think it was a pass from KD [Kevin Durant],” he said.

That dunk took place at Oracle Arena, the Warriors’ former home. Interestingly, Curry pointed out that he has never dunked at the team’s current arena, Chase Center. “I never dunked at Chase. How about that?” he mused.

Physical Toll and Strategic Play

Curry acknowledged that while he still feels good physically, dunking takes a toll on his body. As the second half of the season unfolds, the four-time NBA champion is mindful of how he manages his workload.

“I’ve been doing some knee stuff all year,” Curry explained. “And you want to take advantage of a cherry-pick opportunity.”

Still, he admitted that executing the dunk was no easy feat. “It took everything out of me to get up there,” he said with a smile.

A Push from an Unexpected Source

While Curry’s dunk was a surprise to fans, it turns out it was also an idea planted in his head earlier that day.

Assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse made a lighthearted comment during the team’s morning shootaround, suggesting that he wanted to see Curry dunk.

“Ironically, this morning at shooter run, Stackhouse said he wanted to see a dunk,” Curry revealed. “He hadn’t said that all year, and I haven’t heard that in years, and it happened tonight, which is kind of funny. It was a very random comment this morning.”

Whether or not Stackhouse’s words influenced Curry’s decision, the moment added another exciting chapter to the superstar’s illustrious career.

What’s Next for Curry and the Warriors?

With the regular season moving into its final stretch, the Warriors are looking to make a strong push in the Western Conference. Their next challenge will be against the Charlotte Hornets at Chase Center on March 3.

As for Curry, fans will have to cherish this rare dunk, as he seems to have made up his mind about it being his last. But in a career full of surprises, anything is possible when the two-time MVP steps onto the court.
