Jenna Bush Hager recently shared a heartwarming story about a weekend visit from her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush,

and the surprising effect her mother’s Secret Service detail had on her children.
On March 3, during an episode of *Today with Jenna and Friends*, Jenna opened up to guest co-host Savannah Guthrie about the fun family time,
including a memorable moment involving her daughter Mila and the unexpected presence of Secret Service agents.

Jenna explained that her mom was in town for the weekend, and despite the “freezing” weather, they had a wonderful time together.

A family photo was shown on the show, where Laura was pictured with Jenna’s three children—Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5.

The children looked delighted to spend time with their grandmother, and Poppy even made a special “Welcome Grammy” poster for the occasion.
However, as Jenna pointed out, one of her children was a little overwhelmed by the experience. “If you zoom in on Mila’s face, she was quite overwhelmed by the Secret Service,” Jenna shared with a smile. She explained that while Mila was excited to see her grandmother, the presence of Secret Service agents made her feel a bit uneasy. “You can tell there’s some overwhelm. I mean, she was thrilled her grandmother was here and we had so much fun.”
While Mila may have been a little taken aback by the Secret Service, Jenna assured viewers that her children are accustomed to the presence of security, as they are the grandchildren of former President George W. Bush and great-grandchildren of the late George H. W. Bush. Savannah Guthrie asked if the kids are used to the Secret Service by now, to which Jenna responded, “It’s all they’ve ever known, but do you feel like as they’re getting older, they’re like, ‘Oh, who are these people?’”

Jenna explained that although her children are used to the security, it’s not something they typically see when they’re with her parents, especially when they’re spending time at home in Texas. “When we hang with my parents, it’s usually where there’s not much Secret Service presence,” she said. “And yesterday there was some. And Mila was like, ‘Are you humiliated?’ And I’m like, ‘No, Mila, I’m used to this.’”
There’s no denying that being around Secret Service agents can be an overwhelming experience for kids, especially for Jenna’s youngest, Hal. “They like to threaten Hal with fake policemen all the time, and so Mila was like, ‘Hal, these are Secret Service men, they can arrest you.’ And Hal was like, ‘But I didn’t do nothing! But I didn’t do, I’m innocent,’” Jenna joked, sharing a funny moment from the weekend.

Beyond the humorous moments with the Secret Service, Jenna and Savannah also discussed family matters on the show. Savannah, who shares two children, Vale and Charley, with her husband Michael Feldman, brought up the topic of possibly expanding their families. She revealed that she had dreamt of Jenna having another child, joking about the possibility of a fourth.
Jenna laughed at the idea, saying, “I have nothing to announce,” before adding, “I’m pretty sure I’ve come to terms that three, even though it’s an imperfect number, is the perfect number for our house.” Savannah chimed in, commenting that it’s very normal to feel “broody” for more children, especially after having a third or fourth. Jenna agreed, admitting that she would have welcomed a third child “in a heartbeat” but was mindful of time.

Their conversation also touched on their deep bond, as both women have been close friends for years. Savannah had previously shared that despite living in different locations now, their families remain incredibly close. “It was such a beautiful moment in time, those five, six, seven years that we were neighbors. Our kids grew up together,” she recalled. “They were more like cousins than anything.”
The friendship between their families is evident in how they refer to each other’s children. “Hal, her youngest, is my godson, so my kids like to call the other kids their godbrothers and sisters. And it feels like family,” Savannah added.

As Jenna and her family continue to navigate their lives in the spotlight, moments like this remind us that despite the busy public lives they lead, their core relationships and family bonds remain as important as ever. Whether it’s dealing with Secret Service surprises or discussing future family plans, the Bush Hager family continues to share love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
