Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford shares update on mother’s health after Christmas fall

Ruth Langsford has shared a positive update on her mother, Joan, following a challenging period of recovery after a recent hospitalization.

The 94-year-old suffered a fall in December, leading to a fractured pelvis—an unfortunate incident that occurred less than a year after she had already endured a hip fracture.

Despite initial fears about the severity of her injury, doctors reassured the family that Joan would not require surgery.

However, she did need a hospital stay to ensure she received proper care and rehabilitation before returning home.

Fortunately, by January, she was well enough to leave the hospital and reunite with her family, including Ruth and her beloved dog, Maggie.

Ruth’s Heartfelt Update on Joan’s Recovery

The television presenter recently took to Instagram to give her followers an insight into her mother’s recovery journey. Alongside a heartwarming photo of Joan enjoying the sunshine, Ruth wrote:

“Mum soaking up this gorgeous sunshine and rocking my sunglasses and padded gilet. Thank you for all your kind enquiries about her… she’s recovering brilliantly after fracturing her pelvis in December. Charging around again on her walker like a good ’un! Hope I’ll have her grit and energy when I’m 94! LEGEND.”

Joan received care from the dedicated staff at Woking Community Hospital and St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. Ruth has previously expressed her gratitude for the healthcare professionals who supported her mother during her time in the hospital.

A Tough End to 2023

For Ruth, seeing her mother in pain was an emotional experience, especially as it disrupted their usual festive traditions. Christmas has always been a special time for their family, but Joan’s injury meant they had to forgo their typical celebrations.

Reflecting on the challenges, Ruth shared her feelings with her followers, saying:

“No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas. This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well… she’s a very strong woman, so I’m sure she’ll recover from this too. Puts life and what’s important into perspective, eh?”

Her words resonated with many of her fans, who praised her for her devotion to her mother and shared their own stories of caring for elderly relatives.

Ruth’s Own Health Struggles

Joan’s hospitalization came just months after Ruth herself had to take a break due to illness. The 64-year-old previously revealed that she had been feeling unwell and had to stay home for several days.

She reassured fans that she was on the mend, stating:

“I’ve had a couple of days at home with the lurgy but feeling better today, so I ventured out for a stroll with Maggie. Nice to get some fresh air.”

Though she didn’t go into details about her illness, she appeared in good spirits during her recent updates, focusing on spending time with her mother and taking care of her well-being.

A Period of Personal Change

Aside from dealing with health concerns, Ruth has also been navigating personal changes in her life. Last year, she and her husband of 14 years, Eamonn Holmes, confirmed their separation. The news came as a shock to many fans, as the pair had been one of television’s most beloved presenting duos.

Since their split, Eamonn has been linked to 42-year-old Katie Alexander, a woman he reportedly grew close to over the past few years. The broadcaster was spotted with her in Barcelona, sparking speculation about his new romance. However, neither he nor Ruth has publicly commented further on the details of their separation.

A Focus on Family and Recovery

For now, Ruth is focusing on her mother’s recovery and her own well-being. She has continued to share glimpses of her life on social media, keeping fans updated with positive moments despite the difficult times she has faced.

With Joan back home and showing her usual resilience, Ruth is hopeful that brighter days are ahead. Her mother’s strength and determination have clearly been an inspiration, proving that age is no barrier to fighting back and embracing life’s joys.

As Ruth continues to support her mother through her recovery, fans have shown their love and encouragement, reminding her that she is not alone in this journey.
