ITV This Morning fans fume ‘it’s like pulling teeth’ as they complain minutes into show

Viewers of ITV’s This Morning were left unimpressed on Thursday, March 6, as the show’s latest episode failed to capture their interest.

The program, hosted by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, featured high-profile interviews with the cast of Bergerac and the new Netflix drama Toxic Town,

but audiences quickly took to social media to express their frustration.

Despite the star-studded guest list, some fans found the interviews lackluster and “hard work,”

with a number of viewers taking to X (formerly Twitter) to air their grievances.

Star Guests Fail to Impress Viewers

Thursday’s episode kicked off with a segment on Netflix’s Toxic Town, a four-part drama based on the real-life Corby toxic waste scandal.

The show, which stars Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood, and Claudia Jessie, has received praise from critics, particularly for the performances of its lead actors.

During the episode, Whittaker appeared alongside two real-life mothers who were directly affected by the toxic waste case. The discussion was expected to be an emotional and thought-provoking moment for the show, but some viewers found it difficult to engage with.

Following this, the hosts welcomed Damien Molony and Zoe Wanamaker to the famous blue sofa to discuss the highly anticipated Bergerac reboot. Molony, who has taken over the role of Jim Bergerac, spoke about his approach to portraying a darker, more complex version of the beloved detective. Wanamaker, meanwhile, shared insight into her role as Charlie Hungerford, Bergerac’s mother-in-law.

Despite the big-name guests and intriguing projects, the tone and flow of the interviews left many fans unimpressed.

Viewers Share Their Frustrations

Almost immediately, disgruntled fans took to social media to share their disappointment, with some describing the episode as dull and uninspiring.

One viewer wrote: “Gawd these interviews are hard work today.”

Another frustrated fan commented: “I can’t remember the last time they had an interview on this show that actually stopped me from falling asleep.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. A third viewer remarked: “It’s like pulling teeth today.”

Some even took aim at the guests’ conversational skills, with one person posting: “Honestly, going by today’s interviews (Damien aside), it’s just as well these actors are given scripts to do their job.”

Meanwhile, another unimpressed audience member added: “Is this the pause-for-thought sofa during an interview?!”

The reaction suggests that, despite bringing high-profile projects to the discussion, the episode failed to engage its audience, leaving many feeling disconnected from the content.

Can This Morning Regain Viewers’ Interest?

ITV’s This Morning has long been one of Britain’s most popular daytime shows, drawing in millions of viewers each week. However, it has faced its fair share of criticism in recent months, with audiences voicing concerns over the quality of interviews, the pacing of segments, and the chemistry between hosts.

Since taking over as new permanent hosts, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard have been working to establish their own style and rhythm on the show. While some fans have praised their natural chemistry, others believe the show still lacks the energy and excitement it once had.

The backlash from Thursday’s episode suggests that some viewers are losing patience, particularly when interviews fail to capture their attention.

What’s Next for This Morning?

With audience expectations higher than ever, ITV may need to rethink its approach to interviews and content selection in order to keep viewers engaged.

Although Toxic Town and the Bergerac reboot are both significant projects with strong talent attached, the way these interviews were conducted did not seem to connect with the audience.

Whether the show can bounce back and regain favor with its viewers remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Thursday’s episode left many frustrated and unimpressed.
