“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. 

“I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

She reassured fans that their kindness had not gone unnoticed and added, “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family but also all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

Despite the update, her statement left many with unanswered questions. The nature of the family health matter remains undisclosed, and no additional details have been provided regarding the situation.

When Will Sheinelle Jones Return to Today?

There has been no official confirmation regarding Jones’ return date. Her last appearance on the show was on December 18, 2024, before taking her leave. Although she indicated in her post that she would “see” viewers “soon,” reports suggest that the matter she is dealing with is serious.

A source revealed that the health issue in question does not involve her husband, Uche Ojeh, or their three children. “Sheinelle appreciates the support she’s received from fans and viewers in her absence,” the source shared. “She’s especially grateful for her tight-knit Today show family and co-hosts, for all their love during a sensitive time.”

Sheinelle Jones’ Career at Today

Jones has been a part of the Today team since October 2014, originally joining as a co-host for Weekend Today. She later transitioned to 3rd Hour Today in January 2019, leading to a demanding six-day workweek as she continued her weekend hosting duties. In December 2019, she stepped away from the weekend edition to focus on her weekday role.

Jones has been married to Uche Ojeh since 2007. The couple met during their time at Northwestern University, and their love story dates back more than 25 years. As a freshman, Jones met Ojeh when he was a high school senior visiting the university. She humorously recalled, “I was a fake tour guide. I was just walking to class. [I was like,] ‘Are you guys lost?’ And I told him I would take him around because he was cute.”

Ojeh currently works as a managing partner at UAO Consulting, a firm he has been with since 2008.

Jones and Ojeh share three children: a son, Kayin, born in 2009, and twins, Clara and Uche, born in July 2012.

The journalist has often spoken about the importance of fostering strong family bonds among her kids. In a personal essay, she wrote, “With all three of my children, I try to show them that they’re ALL a team, and they have to take care of each other. At the same time, I’m learning that they each like to know they’re special on their own. Jones comes from a distinguished family. Her father, Judge C. Darnell Jones, served as a United States District Court judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania before retiring at 73 in 2022. Her mother, Sheila Kinnard, is a retired drama teacher.

Sheinelle has four siblings: twins Antonia Thomas and Fernando Jones, as well as a sister, Keesha, and a brother, Cardozie. Additionally, she maintains a close relationship with her maternal grandmother, Jo Brown.
