Sunny Hostin’s son, Gabriel, has become a hot topic among the cohosts of The View, with both current and former panelists taking notice of the legal expert’s firstborn.

The discussion unfolded during a segment on the popular daytime talk show,
sparked by a conversation about age gaps in Hollywood romances and the upcoming Anne Hathaway rom-com The Idea of You.
Veteran panelist Joy Behar was the first to bring up the unexpected attention surrounding Gabriel,

particularly referencing an appearance Hostin made on Sherri, the talk show hosted by former View cohost Sherri Shepherd.

“I was watching you on the Sherri Shepherd show, and she was out of her mind over your son. What the heck was that about?

Alright, the kid’s hot, but really?” Behar joked, prompting laughter from the rest of the panel.
As the conversation unfolded, a large image from Sherri appeared on the screen behind the View hosts. The picture captured Shepherd’s reaction to a semi-shirtless beach photo of Gabriel, taken during his 21st birthday trip to Spain. The lighthearted banter continued as Sara Haines playfully questioned Hostin about the choice of pictures, saying, “What kind of pictures did you pick, Sunny? That’s your son!”
Hostin, clearly amused but slightly embarrassed, clarified that she had not personally selected the images. “I didn’t even pick those,” she explained with a laugh. “Those were pictures of his 21st birthday when we went to Spain. I’m used to that with him, but, yeah.”
Whoopi Goldberg, the show’s moderator, seized the moment to squeeze in a final joke before heading into a commercial break. “So, you’re okay if Sherri calls him?” Goldberg quipped, prompting Hostin to shake her head and chuckle as the audience reacted with amusement.
This isn’t the first time Hostin has spoken about her children on The View. Over the years, she has openly expressed her admiration for both Gabriel and her daughter, Paloma, whom she shares with her husband, Manny Hostin. While she often discusses their accomplishments and milestones, she also doesn’t shy away from sharing more serious matters regarding their well-being.

Back in September, Hostin revealed a frightening incident involving Gabriel. During an episode of the Behind the Table podcast, she disclosed that her son, a student at Harvard University, had been struck by a car near campus. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured, but the ordeal was a terrifying experience for the family.
Meanwhile, Shepherd has a history of humorously expressing interest in the sons of her fellow celebrities. She previously made headlines for jokingly fawning over the son of actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, who starred alongside Goldberg in Sister Act. Ralph later addressed Shepherd’s comments during an interview with Kelly Ripa, playfully recalling her reaction to Shepherd’s interest. “It was so crazy how that all came about,” Ralph said. “I love Sherri. I mean, I’ve known Sherri forever, and when she came out with this auntie crush on Etienne, I was like, ‘Girlfriend, where is this coming from?’” Ralph continued, “She said, ‘Sheryl, I told you that boy was going to be fine. I told you he was gonna be fine, and we have arrived at that time.’ And I was like, ‘Girl, please.’”

The playful nature of Shepherd’s admiration for Gabriel and other celebrity sons seems to be all in good fun, though it certainly adds an element of entertainment to daytime television. The lighthearted banter on The View highlights the bond between the cohosts and their ability to joke about personal topics while keeping the show engaging for viewers.
As for Hostin, she took the teasing in stride, proving once again that she’s more than capable of handling playful jabs from her colleagues. While she may not be entirely comfortable with all the extra attention on her son, she certainly recognizes the humor in the situation. And as Goldberg’s closing remark hinted, she may have to brace herself for a few more calls from Shepherd in the near future!
