Kelly Ripa And Mark Consuelos Beckon ‘Live’ EP Michael Gelman On Camera To Complain The Teleprompter Screen Is Too Dark: “Can You See That Actually?”

Things took an amusing turn on Live with Kelly and Mark when hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos put executive producer Michael Gelman on the spot over a technical issue.

During Tuesday’s episode, the duo found themselves struggling to read the teleprompter,

leading to a lighthearted yet pointed exchange that brought Gelman into the spotlight.

Teleprompter Trouble Catches Everyone’s Attention

As the hosts wrapped up their opening chat and prepared to introduce the next segment, Consuelos appeared to have difficulty reading his line.

While attempting to announce the winner of the Predict the Winners Ballot Game, he focused intently on the teleprompter and hesitated before delivering his words.

Sensing something was off, Ripa quickly chimed in, questioning whether the issue was with the screen itself. “I gotta tell you. Can we roll back that teleprompter?” she asked.

But rather than just mentioning the issue in passing, the hosts decided to get Gelman directly involved, inviting him to come see the problem for himself. “Gelman, come here. I want you to see this… You know you like to be on camera,” Ripa quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

Gelman Steps In—But the Issue Remains

Ever the professional, Gelman didn’t hesitate to step in. He took a look at the teleprompter and began reading Consuelos’ line aloud, seemingly proving that the text was legible. However, that didn’t convince the hosts, who still felt the screen was too dim.

Consuelos was quick to agree with Ripa, pointing out that, in real life, the teleprompter appeared significantly darker than it looked on camera. “Very dark,” he noted, emphasizing the struggle he was facing.

Ripa wasn’t letting it go, either. “We know you know what it says,” she told Gelman. “But can you see that actually?”

As the conversation continued, Ripa proposed a simple fix—adjusting the brightness. “Maybe bring up the brightness a little,” she suggested, making it clear that this wasn’t just about them struggling to read; it was a genuine visibility issue.

A Perfectly Timed Camera Angle?

While Ripa and Consuelos maintained that the teleprompter was hard to see, something unexpected happened—the screen appeared brighter when caught on camera. This led Ripa to jokingly accuse the production crew of manipulating the angle to make it seem like there was no issue.

“You guys are so full of S. Stop it,” she joked, calling out the discrepancy. “‘Let me get the angle so it looks bright.’ No, with eyeballs, not camera lens, it’s impossible to see.”

Her playful jab at the production team had the audience laughing, showing once again why Ripa and Consuelos are such a dynamic hosting duo. Their ability to turn even a minor technical hiccup into an entertaining moment is part of what keeps fans tuning in.

Live TV’s Unexpected Moments

This wasn’t the first time Live with Kelly and Mark had an unscripted moment that stole the show, and it certainly won’t be the last. The chemistry between Ripa, Consuelos, and Gelman has always been a defining feature of the show, with moments like this adding to its charm.

Though the teleprompter incident was a small issue in the grand scheme of things, it highlighted how even seasoned hosts can run into unexpected challenges on live television. Instead of brushing it off, Ripa and Consuelos embraced the moment, turning what could have been a simple complaint into a comedic bit that had the audience engaged.

A Fun, Lighthearted Exchange

At the end of the day, Live with Kelly and Mark is all about fun, energy, and keeping things real. Whether they’re discussing pop culture, sharing personal stories, or—apparently—dealing with teleprompter malfunctions, Ripa and Consuelos know how to keep viewers entertained.

As for the brightness issue? Whether it gets fixed or not, fans can likely expect more playful moments like this in future episodes. After all, nothing keeps live television exciting quite like a little unpredictability.
