Brittany Cartwright is speaking out about the explosive confrontation she had with her estranged husband,

Jax Taylor, that eventually led to him seeking help for his substance abuse issues.
In a revealing episode of her podcast, When Reality Hits, Cartwright shared her side of the story, detailing the emotional blowout that took place in November 2024.
This incident would serve as a turning point for Taylor, who later admitted to entering rehab for substance abuse recovery.

According to Cartwright, the altercation started after Taylor woke up from a night of partying in a “horrible mood.”

She described how he had been using drugs the night before and was suffering from a hangover,

setting the stage for an argument during a car ride to their son Cruz’s doctor’s appointment. Despite Cartwright requesting that Taylor not accompany her on the long drive, he insisted on joining her, which led to a heated argument. Cartwright explained that the disagreement started with a conversation about a bar opening, not any issues regarding another man, as Taylor had recently suggested.
Cartwright recalled how Taylor’s behavior escalated quickly. “Before a guy ever texted my phone, he was already at my throat,” she shared. She went on to describe how she was reduced to tears within the first 30 minutes of the drive. She also mentioned how the situation became so intense that she considered calling an Uber to leave the car and take herself and Cruz home. “We almost pulled over so I could get out and call an Uber,” Cartwright said. The situation was clearly volatile, and things continued to deteriorate.
The turning point in the argument came when a man’s phone number appeared on the GPS screen, sparking an explosive reaction from Taylor. Cartwright described how Taylor became enraged and began grabbing at her phone while she was driving, all while their young son Cruz was seated in the backseat. “He starts trying to grab my phone and Cruz is in the backseat in his car seat — that alone is horrible,” Cartwright recalled. She also mentioned that Taylor was yelling “the most despicable things” during this chaotic moment, a situation she described as deeply upsetting.

Taylor later spoke out about the incident on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, where he admitted to “losing it” and “going crazy in the car.” He explained that it was in that moment that he realized he needed to seek help for his substance abuse problems, saying, “That’s when I knew, ‘S–t, I have a problem. It’s still there.’” However, Cartwright disputed this claim, stating that it wasn’t their son Cruz who prompted Taylor to seek help. She revealed that on the same day of the argument, Taylor had denied having an addiction problem.
After the distressing doctor’s appointment, Cartwright made the difficult decision to return home in an Uber, feeling that her safety and well-being were at risk. She locked herself and Cruz inside their home and reached out to several people for support, including Taylor’s sister, her own manager, her publicist, and Hot Mic host Alex Baskin. Cartwright acknowledged that these actions could have jeopardized Taylor’s reality TV career, but she felt it was necessary to ensure her own safety and well-being.
In the aftermath of the blowout, Taylor has since celebrated 100 days of sobriety, sharing a milestone photo on Instagram alongside a chart showing his clean time from both cocaine and alcohol. “100 days down and the rest of my life to go,” Taylor wrote in his caption, marking the beginning of his recovery journey.

Meanwhile, Cartwright has been relying on her friends for emotional support as she navigates her personal challenges. Recently, she spent time with her former Vanderpump Rules co-star Scheana Shay, watching Scheana’s performance on The Masked Singer. Shay, who has been a close friend to Cartwright, acknowledged that her friend is going through a tough time. “The other day was a really tough one for her, and she’s getting hit from all angles,” Shay said. “I think it was a nice little escape for her last night to just hang out with her friends and have this nice surprise.”
Aside from the turmoil caused by Taylor’s addiction, Cartwright is also in the process of finalizing her divorce from him. After five years of marriage, Cartwright filed for divorce in August 2024, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation. As she moves forward, Cartwright continues to focus on her own healing and well-being, leaning on her support system during this difficult chapter in her life.
