Ben Affleck recently shared a humorous parenting moment involving his 13-year-old son, Samuel, and a pricey pair of sneakers. 

While attending the Got Sole sneaker convention together, Affleck was taken aback when his son expressed interest in a $6,000 pair of Dior Air Jordan 1s. 

The exchange between father and son quickly became a lighthearted lesson in financial responsibility.

A Lesson in Hard Work

During an interview with Access Hollywood at the SXSW festival, Affleck opened up about his reaction to Samuel’s high-end sneaker choice. 

The Gone Girl actor joked that his son’s enthusiasm quickly faded once he was told he would have to earn the money himself.

“That’s what happens when you tell a motherf–ker they have to mow a lawn,” Affleck quipped. “All of a sudden, they don’t want those shoes.”

Affleck, who is worth an estimated $150 million, emphasized that while he has the money, his son does not. “I’m like, ‘Man, you do not need $1,000 shoes,’” he said. “He’s like, ‘We have the money.’ I’m like, ‘I have the money, you’re broke.’”

The $6,000 Sneakers

The father-son duo was spotted at the sneaker convention last week, where Samuel was drawn to the limited-edition Dior Air Jordan 1s. Originally released in 2020 with a retail price of $2,000, the sneakers have since become a collector’s item, with resale prices soaring to $6,000.

In a video captured at the event, Affleck can be seen reacting to the hefty price tag. “You like those because they’re expensive,” he told his son. However, Samuel insisted, “No, they’re tough! I’ve always said they look good!”

Affleck, still unimpressed by the cost, responded with another classic dad remark: “That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow there.”

Did They Buy the Sneakers?

While Affleck and Samuel were seen leaving the convention with several shopping bags, it remains unclear whether the Dior sneakers made the final cut. Regardless, Affleck’s stance on financial responsibility remained firm, making for a memorable father-son moment.

In addition to Samuel, Affleck shares two other children—19-year-old Violet and 16-year-old Seraphina—with his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Garner. Despite their divorce, Affleck and Garner have maintained a cooperative co-parenting relationship over the years.

The speculation intensified after the former couple was spotted together at a paintball park, where Affleck was seen affectionately holding Garner around the waist. However, sources close to the Alias star have made it clear that she is happy in her relationship with longtime boyfriend John Miller and has no interest in revisiting the past.

Meanwhile, Affleck finalized his divorce from Jennifer Lopez in January. A source revealed that following the split, he is “happier than he’s been in years.”
