During an appearance at Variety’s Actors on Actors, Adam Sandler inquired Jennifer Lawrence about her process while or before filming. Lawrence admitted that she’s too lazy to memorize her dialogues beforehand.
Jennifer Lawrence explained that she typically avoids memorizing her lines, mainly out of a combination of laziness and a desire to alleviate boredom. She mentioned that after returning home, her preference is to watch television before bedtime rather than diving into the script.
Lawrence told Adam Sandler:
“I don’t really every memorize either, mostly just out of laziness and boredom. When I come home, I wanna watch TV before I go to bed. I don’t want to read the script. Normally hair and makeup is like two hours where I can’t go anywhere, so I just use that to memorize. But for Mother I didn’t really have a choice because we did a three months rehersal process in a warehouse in Brooklyn. And the dialogue didn’t really change much so I ended up memorizing it.”
During her extended hair and makeup sessions, which often consume around two hours, she utilizes that time to commit her lines to memory.
