Earlier this year, Forbes included Tiger Woods on its list of billionaires. As one of three billionaire athletes, along with basketball’s LeBron James and Michael Jordan,
Woods is also the highest-paid golfer in the world.
Despite his ups and downs, at the age of 46, he is considered by many to be a living legend and one of the most famous golfers in history.
Like many other sports stars, his life to date is filled with luxury and controversy.
In a world where the rich and famous “change their cars like they change their clothes”, it’s rare for people to still cherish a yacht after nearly 20 years.
Some are always on the hunt for other more spectacular boats, some pay exorbitant rental prices to experience different spaces.
But Tiger Woods didn’t do that. His famous luxury yacht is still as mysterious as it was decades ago, just like the name Privacy (privacy, privacy).
Privacy Cruise was born in scandal. Instead of enjoying the luxurious atmosphere after receiving the boat, in 2004, the legendary golfer filed a lawsuit against the shipyard for using his name and image to advertise without his consent.
In 2006, ESPN reported that the lawsuit had been settled “for an undisclosed amount” (rumored to be up to $1.6 million). The shipyard mentioned is Christensen, which is a prestigious name from the United States. Because of this scandalous lawsuit, Christensen never revealed any more details about the boat after that.
The world only had the opportunity to admire Privacy’s silhouette on three occasions: the 2006 US Open golf tournament at Winged Foot, the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills and the 2019 PGA Championship. Each time it caused a stir.
In 2019, sports anchor Justin Walters shared a photo of the “rarely seen beauty”, saying: “That’s $20 million on the water.”
Privacy is not one of the largest or most expensive superyachts owned by a celebrity. But at the time of launch, it was still a powerfully impressive boat with a length of 47m and a price of 20 million USD, inspired by James Bond’s submarine.
Privacy makes people even more curious when no one other than Tiger Woods’ extremely close circle of friends knows what this “beast” looks like. To this day, Privacy remains shrouded in mystery. There are only a few images mainly from the factory leak before the lawsuit broke out.
Designed by Carol Williamson & Associates, Privacy has a total of five staterooms for up to 10 guests, plus four cabins for a crew of nine. Most activities are concentrated on the main deck, while the top deck is mainly used as an observation room.
Like many other superyachts, those who board will enjoy luxurious amenities such as a cinema, spacious bar, jacuzzi large enough for 8 people and a gym with all the latest equipment.
The boat is also equipped with many water toys such as kayaks, jet skis, skis and appears to have a compression chamber or diving chamber – a small boat for one person to dive into the water. According to The Richest, the boat’s “garage” even has two Vespas.
Privacy’s interior is a mystery, some say leaning towards a classic style, with cherry wood predominating even the stair railing with transparent treads. There is also a large elevator connecting the decks.
Operating costs are likely to be up to 2 million USD/year. Privacy can hold more than 45,400 liters of fuel for a range of 7,408km. That’s more than enough for the famous boss’s typical trips (which usually don’t go too far from the US).
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Privacy has not had the opportunity to make waves at
sporting events like before. In 2011, it was reported that Tiger Woods would sell the boat for a suggested price of $25 million. But since then, there has been no more information surrounding the incident.
