Caitlin Clark’s WNBA debut performance was met with mixed reviews after the former Iowa superstar dropped a team-high 20 points, but also committed 10 turnovers, in the Fever’s regular-season opener against the Connecticut Sun earlier this week.
Clark’s second-ever WNBA game didn’t get off to a much better start.
On Thursday against New York, Clark was held to just two points in the first half as the Fever ultimately found themselves in a 48-31 halftime hole.
Clark found a groove in the third quarter, adding seven points to bring her total up to nine, but the team’s lackluster performance overall has some in the basketball world wondering if someone else besides head coach Christie Sides should lead Indiana moving forward.
Not just anyone else, though.
Clark’s former coach, Lisa Bluder, was spotted in attendance at the Fever’s home opener on Thursday and fans are wondering whether she’d consider coming out of retirement to coach Clark once again.
“Christie Sides the clock is ticking on Lisa Bluder taking your job. Maybe not Lisa but Sides appears lost,” one fan writes.
It’s unclear whether Bluder would even consider coming out of retirement to coach again. Fans, however, are certainly hoping she’s open to the idea as Clark and the Fever continue to struggle early in the 2024 WNBA season.
“I’ll just leave it here… good timing christie sides and Lisa bluder,” Helena said.
“Lisa Bluder is watching this Fever offense absolutely gagging to tag herself in and coach,” KJ said.
With just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Fever are down 81-58 to New York.
Indiana will look to bounce back on Saturday with another matchup against the Liberty.
