Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway looks like she’s fallen from a great height – in a miniseries about a business that did just that.

Wearing a leopardskin coat and thigh- skimming leather boots, the Hollywood actress plays Rebekah Neumann, wife of WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann, in upcoming Apple TV series WeCrashed.

In a blonde wig and with her face made up to look battered and bruised, Anne, 38, is almost unrecognisable as the star of Les Miserables and The Devil Wears Prada.

Startup WeWork – a US firm offering physical and virtual shared office space – lost $2billion at the start of 2021.

The mini series, filming in New York, is based on a hit podcast called WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork.

It also delves into the relationship of former CEO Adam, played by Jared Leto, and Buddhism devotee Rebekah – a cousin of actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anne recently stunned TV audiences by admitting she was the 9th choice actress to star in The Devil Wears Prada.

The brunette, who played the iconic Andy Sachs, made the revelation on the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race about one of her first major leading roles in the movie industry.

Anne was asked by Rosé if there were any roles she had to ‘fight tooth and nail for’.

And she said: “How much time do you have? I will give you some tea – I was the ninth choice for Devil Wears Prada. But I got it! Hang in there, never give up.”

Rachel McAdams reportedly turned the role down and Juliette Lewis and Claire Danes also were claimed to have auditioned for it.

But Anne, who had fronted kids and teen movies like The Princess Diaries and Ella Enchanted, later told Variety: “I had to be patient. I wasn’t the first choice.”

The Devil Wears Prada was a huge box office hit grossing $300 million (£214m) against a $41 million (£29m) budget and earned an Oscar nomination for Meryl.

Following her success, Anne starred in Bride Wars, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, The Hustle and Les Misérables.

Anne told of her struggles of being a lockdown parent of two children, along with Adam Shulman.

She told Stellar: “You know, I’m always hesitant to frame things in the realms of challenges because I think it sets a tone. As a mum, I’ve found tons of opportunities. There’s obviously a learning curve.

“You just have to be kind to yourself with that, because you do feel like you’re doing everything wrong, especially in the early days.”

Last year Anne issued an apology after criticism about the depiction of her character’s hands in The Witches film.

There was a huge backlash towards the latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1983 book which stars Hathaway as the Grand High Witch, who has three elongated fingers on each hand.

Both the novel and the 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston portrayed the witches as having five fingers and the new film’s producers were accused of being insensitive towards disabled people.

British Para swimmer Amy Marren was among those criticising director Robert Zemeckis’ version, saying its depiction of the witches’ hands could be harmful to people – especially children – with limb

impairments.

Anne joined studio Warner Bros in issuing an apology and said “now that I know better I promise I’ll do better”.

She wrote on Instagram : “Let me begin by saying I do my best to be sensitive to the feelings and experiences of others not out of some scrambling PC fear, but because not hurting others seems like a basic level of decency we should all be striving for.

“As someone who really believes in inclusivity and really, really detests cruelty, I owe you all an apology for the pain caused. I am sorry.

“I did not connect limb difference with the GHW when the look of the character was brought to me; if I had, I assure you this never would have happened.”

She added: “I particularly want to say I’m sorry to kids with limb differences: now that I know better I promise I’ll do better.

“And I owe a special apology to everyone who loves you as fiercely as I love my own kids: I’m sorry I let your family down.”

Anne also shared a video from the Lucky Fin Project, an organisation supporting those with limb differences.

A Warner Bros representative said filmmakers were “deeply saddened” at causing upset.
