Post Malone made his Academy Of Country Music Awards debut by attending the 59th edition of the ceremony, which was held on Thursday, May 16, at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
The singer and rapper, who’s currently working on his first-ever full-length country music album.
Only just dropped I Had Some Help featuring Morgan Wallen, the lead single off his much-anticipated record.
In a clever promotional move, Malone (born Austin Richard Post), 28, took the stage wearing a white Dallas Cowboys number 4 jersey, which is quarterback Dak Prescott’s number.
While his backing band were dressed in bright blue version’s of the NFL team’s uniform.
The Syracuse, New York native debuted new music by performing Never Love You Again and a solo version of I Had Some Help, which appears to be heading to the top of the charts.
And in a surprise move, the musician would be joined by show host Reba McEntire for an a cappella cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s classic Ramblin’ Man.
McEntire, 69, who also served as host of the show for a record 17th time, ended the duet with a Post Malone by embracing for a friendly hug.
For Malone, wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey was a nod of respect of sorts for his father, who worked as the concessions manager for the team, as reported by People.
While he initially grew up in Syracuse, New York, the Goodbyes star ended up moving with his family to Grapevine, Texas when he was nine-years-old when his dad took that concessions job for the team.
The jersey helped showcase the tattoos up and down both arms, which he matched with fitted blue jeans, brown cowboy boots, and a camouflage baseball cap over his short locks.
During the rest of the ceremony he opted to wear a dark plaid suit with a light-colored collar shirt with a bolo tie.
While details about his country-themed album are minimal, he did confirm the work for the project was underway in 2023.
This shift to country has been in his plans for some time, considering he mentioned a potential double country album with Dwight Yoakam’s band, while naming Johnny Cash as one of his main musical influences.
Malone began his musical career in 2011, and gained recognition with his 2015 debut single White Iverson, which would peak at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Since then he has released four more studio album: Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018), Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019), Twelve Carat Toothache (2022), and most recently Austin (2023), which debuted at number two on Billboard 200.
A departure of sorts from the hip-hop-driven sounds of its predecessor, Austin has been described as being more centered around an alternative rock sound, with touches of synth pop and indie pop.
Fueled by the singles Chemical, Mourning, Overdrive and Enough Is Enough, last year’s release became his fifth straight album to reach top five status, en route to accumulating more than 101.14 million on-demand streams of songs from the LP.
This marked McEntire’s 17th time that she has hosted the ACM Awards ceremony, which dates back to 1985.
