Tiger Woods revealed that his daughter Sam and he have not spoken for more than 2 years, since that fateful day (video)

Tiger Woods has revealed that his daughter Sam has no interest in golf because it robbed her of so much time with her father.

The sport has a ‘negative connotation’ for the 16-year-old, Woods said on Wednesday, because he was jet-setting for so much of her childhood.

The 48-year-old has rarely been out of the headlines in the three decades since turning professional in 1996 – thanks to his success on the course and his controversial behavior off it.

These days, his son Charlie, 15, is a promising amateur prospect who is regularly seen playing with his dad.

Sam, meanwhile, served as Tiger’s caddie at the PNC Championship last year but the 15-time major winner said he has had to nurture a relationship with her away from the course.

‘She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time, when she was growing up golf took daddy away from her,’ Woods told Today.

‘I had to pack and leave, I’d be gone for weeks and there’s a negative connotation to it. So we develop our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf – we do things that doesn’t involve golf meanwhile my son and I do everything golf related. So it’s very different.’

Neither of Tiger’s children were born before the death of his own father in 2006. Earl Woods was instrumental in his son’s success and the 48-year-old spoke of his regret that he never spent time with his grandchildren.

‘I just wish my dad could have met Charlie and I wish Charlie could have met my dad,’ he said. ‘There’s commonality – there’s me in there. But I wish they would have met. They would have loved each other.’

Despite insisting that his dad is ‘always with me’, Woods wishes he had listened more to his father while he was alive.

‘It’s amazing how many things I say to my kids that came from him,’ said Woods – who even claimed he feels like his father.

‘I wish I would have taken more of his advice. I wish I paid more attention to him when he was alive because I’m saying a lot of the same stuff that he said in the short time I did have him on this earth.

‘But I’m just so happy he was part of my life and I get to pass on some of the stuff that is in me through him.’
