David Beckham recently expressed his long-standing desire to bring Lionel Messi to his team since day one.
Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, Beckham shared, “My vision from day one, when I presented the team and tried to put the logo together and the colours,
the last slide of the presentation to the creative guys was a picture of Messi in the Miami jersey.”
Beckham elaborated on his dream, stating, “So my dream was always to bring him to our team. I still can’t believe it (that he plays for us).
Every time someone turns around to me and says you have Messi in your team, it is surreal.
He further added, “To say we have probably the greatest player to have ever played the game, the most successful player to ever play the game, and he’s playing in Miami in the MLS.”
Last summer, 36-year-old footballer, made a move to Miami on a free transfer after successful stints with European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, his impact on the team has been remarkable, scoring 23 goals in 27 matches and leading Miami to victory in the Leagues Cup.
As the co-owner of Inter Miami, Beckham has been a trailblazer in MLS since joining LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007.
In 2014, he exercised his option to purchase an expansion team, initiating a strategic plan that prominently featured Messi.
Despite initial doubts about Messi joining Inter Miami in 2014, Beckham remained committed to his dream, even creating a mock-up image of Messi in the team’s pink kit. This vision eventually became a reality nine years later.
