Anne Hathaway became deeply involved in her role for the movie Mothers’ Instinct, which required her to explore profound emotions. However, things became a bit too intense for her.
According to a study by Antioch University, acting roles can often contribute to an actor’s psychological stress — resulting in changes in behavior, reliving past traumas,
and experiencing various personality alterations as they portray different characters. Similarly, Hathaway faced unexpected difficulties while filming scenes in the 2024 psychological thriller.
Anne Hathaway initially signed Mothers’ Instinct when she was a young mother herself, but due to the pandemic and scheduling conflicts, its production was delayed.
The film’s narrative centers on two friends, portrayed by Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, whose lives unravel after the tragic loss of Hathaway’s character’s son.
As filming commenced, Annie’s own real-life son had grown closer in age to the child her character tragically loses.
This made things even harder for the actress emotionally. But she stayed committed to the project because she didn’t want to let down her friend Chastain. “I couldn’t back out on a friend,” she said to Vanity Fair, referring to the Ava star.
Hathaway’s dedication to the movie took a toll on her. The heavy themes of the film proved emotionally taxing for her. She reportedly struggled to eat on set and needed a clear separation from her character once filming wrapped. “Even though I loved the people I was working with, I needed to get out of there when it was done and never look back,” the 41-year-old shared.
Recently, the Bafta and Emmy award-winning actress publicly praised Chastain, calling her “one of the greatest living actresses” and a “darling friend,” in an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. The two Hollywood actress have previously collaborated together in Christopher Nolan‘s sci-fi flick, Interstellar.
After the emotional intensity of Mothers’ Instinct, Anne Hathaway seems to be seeking something lighter. Her upcoming project, Seesaw Monster, is a Netflix action-comedy, in which she stars alongside Salma Hayek.
Based on a novel by the author of Bullet Train, this movie marks a shift in tone for Hathaway. Taking on the role of producer alongside her acting duties, the Hollywood star appears committed to exploring the comedic side of her talent.
Reports by Spoiler Bolavip suggest the mother of two is involved in other projects as well. Mother Mary, a drama about fashion and music, in which she plays a fictional musician, is one of them. Another film is The Lifeboat. It is a suspenseful drama, in which she plays Grace Winter, a woman on trial for murder after surviving a shipwreck.
