Tina Knowles, the matriarch of the Knowles family, recently took to Instagram to share a touching video of her interview with Vogue.
Reflecting on some of her favourite memories with her children.
At 70, Knowles opened up about the precious moments she cherishes with her daughters Beyoncé, Solange, and her “third daughter,” Kelly Rowland.
In the video shared on May 26, Knowles recounted a proud moment involving Beyoncé, now 42.
“Beyoncé was very shy and got bullied a bit, but the day she stood up for someone else, not herself, I couldn’t have been more proud,” Knowles said, her voice quivering with emotion.
“It still gets me emotional talking about it.”
Turning her attention to Solange, 37, Knowles reminisced about her daughter’s early activism. “Solange was signing a petition in school when she was only in fifth grade. She was out getting petitions signed,” Knowles shared. “She’s always been an activist.”
Knowles also fondly spoke of Kelly Rowland, 43, whom she considers her third daughter. Rowland moved in with the Knowles family at the age of 11, following her mother’s passing in December 2014. “Kelly was always this kid that just tried to protect everybody,” Knowles said. “I remember her being a mediator with her best friend Barbara, always the peacemaker.”
Each of Knowles’ daughters has carved out their unique paths, but she emphasises their individuality and strengths. “Each child is different but all so special,” Knowles wrote in the video caption. “Learn their personalities and respect their individuality. Never compare the negatives; always praise the positive differences and pay attention to the things you can brag about them. They love it, and it encourages positive behaviour.”
Beyoncé shares daughter Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, 6, with husband and rapper Jay-Z while Solange shares 19-year-old son Daniel ‘Juelz’ Smith Jr. with ex-husband Daniel Smith.
