Prince Harry shares ‘incredibly important’ message as he opens up about his future plans

Prince Harry has spoken out following his trip to Nigeria to insist such visits are “hugely important”.

Harry and Meghan Markle were invited to the African country by the country’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who met Harry last September at the games in Düsseldorf, Germany.

They took part in a number of charity events and also met with key figures and delivered some very poignant speeches.

Now, Harry has branded the three-day trip a success and described the importance of such trips in his efforts to make a positive change across the world.

Speaking to PEOPLE, the Duke said: “It is hugely important for us to meet directly with people, supporting our causes and listening, in order to bring about solutions, support and positive change.”

He continued to say it is likely to be the first of many trips of its like, adding: “There’s only so much one can do from home and over Zoom, so we look forward to traveling more because the work matters.

Whether it’s the Archewell Foundation, Invictus or any of our other causes, there will always be reasons to meet the people at the heart of our work.”

The Prince went on to share his delight over the growth of the Invictus Games and the efforts made to include Nigeria, explaining his love for Africa. “It is a very, very special place, and to be able to include Nigeria now [in Invictus], I’m very happy,” he said.

Harry and Meghan’s Nigerian trip was said to have been “controlled skilfully and with an iron hand” according to one journalist.

The couple visited the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in Abuja, attended events organised by local charities and even met the kings of four different states during their time in the country. Journalist Ian Gallagher said that overall, the tour was “a job well done” for the Sussexes, saying they had achieved “success” despite not attracting as much media attention by newspapers in Nigeria.

Writing in a column in Daily Mail, he said: “Whatever the true complexion of this fascinating tour – private, non-royal, quasi-royal, presidential – one thing was certain. It was controlled skilfully and with an iron hand. Now back home in Montecito, Harry and Meghan will doubtless reflect on a job well done.”
