Though many of us are familiar with Jennifer Lawrence’s uncanny ability to take on dramatic roles, it’s worth noting that she’s not without comedy chops.

For a while, it seemed that raunchy R-rated comedies were a thing of the past, as studios would prefer to have the mass appeal that comes along with a PG-13 rating.

But this Jennifer Lawrence flick takes a page from The 40-Year-Old Virgin playbook, and lets loose in every conceivable way.

Sometimes you just need to accept the fact that not every movie is meant for kids,

and simply enjoy a film that leans into its overtly sexual premise after sending your children off to another room and telling them they could watch it when they’re a little bit older.

Not only is No Hard Feelings climbing the streaming charts, critics overwhelmingly agree that Jennifer Lawrence carries the show with her comedic timing.

Jennifer Lawrence takes on the lead role of Maddie Barker, a 32-year-old Uber driver who is on the brink of bankruptcy and losing her childhood home. After she gets her car repossessed for lapsing on her payments, she loses her primary source of income. Maddie desperately trolls Craigslist postings and finds a job that may actually help dig her out of her dire financial situation, which introduces us to her sort-of love interest, a 19-year-old boy named Percy.

The job posting in question involves Percy’s parents, who are worried that his social awkwardness will not bode well for his college life when he ships off to Princeton University in the fall. Though Percy’s parents insist that they want Jennifer Lawrence’s Maddie to “date” their son to break him out of his shell, the subtext clearly suggests that they want her to take him for a ride on the bang train, and if she’s successful, they’ll reward her for her efforts with a new car.

From this point forward in this Jennifer Lawrence comedy, we’re met with a series of mishaps that show us that slap-stick comedy is still very much alive and well in the year 2023.

After failing to properly introduce herself to Percy, Maddie gets pepper sprayed when he thinks she’s trying to kidnap him. But when Percy finally lets his guard down, he warms up to Maddie, and they start going on dates.

This Jennifer Lawrence flick takes a page from The 40-Year-Old Virgin playbook, and lets loose in every conceivable way.

One such date involves Percy seriously underestimating the potency of a Long Island Iced Tea and getting quite sick. A huge source of comedy in this movie is Jennifer Lawrence’s ill-fated attempts to diffuse disaster, like when their clothes get stolen while skinny dipping, resulting in a naked fistfight and police chase. But despite the inherent ridiculousness of these escalated situations, the humor is never phoned in.

As Maddie and Percy’s relationship further develops in this Jennifer Lawrence film, a new source of tension emerges: Percy falls in love with Maddie and decides that he doesn’t want to go to school. To make matters worse, Percy finds out about the deal that Maddie made with his parents, and the entire job is compromised.

Not only is No Hard Feelings climbing the streaming charts, but critics overwhelmingly agree that Jennifer Lawrence carries the show with her comedic timing, and the film currently has a 71 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes against an audience score of 87 percent.
