While sexual assault in Hollywood is still a hot topic, Jennifer Lawrence recently had a candid conversation about an equally serious scandal in the past involving her: the 2014 nude photo leak.
At that time, a flaw in Apple’s iCloud data sharing application allowed hackers to steal and illegally post ‘sensitive’ photos and videos of more than 100 famous singers and actors.
Among the victims who suffered especially heavy losses, the American actress was one of them.
Recently in the Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence revealed that it “took a long time” to recover mentally from this shock.
“When the photo theft happened, it offended me to the point that I couldn’t put it into words,” said the star of The Hunger Games. “I think I’m still trying to get over it.
Every minute it seemed like it was getting worse – like when you’re in the middle of a kidnapping and ransom situation, and every hour they were releasing more information about the ransom.
I felt like I was being attacked by the public, anyone, anywhere, could see my most private photos. It was not easy to take.”
While some victims of the porn scandal have considered suing Apple, the 27-year-old star believes that litigation cannot solve the problem.
“..no amount of punishment will ever bring me peace of mind, nothing will ever help me undo the past and remove the pictures of me and Nic (actor Nicholas Hoult, Lawrence’s ex-boyfriend at the time). No matter what I do, it’s not going to undo what’s done. So I have absolutely no interest in prosecuting anyone. I just want to heal mentally.”
Lawrence also addressed her relationship with film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been in the middle of a public firestorm over the past few months amid a series of sexual harassment allegations. The two worked together on the 2012 hit drama Silver Linings Playbook, which was produced by Weinstein’s film company. “I had heard rumors that he was a jerk,” the actress said. “But Weinstein was almost always a father figure to me. Even though I called him a jerk, I never thought he was capable of that. So it was a shock when I heard.”
