Each charitable deed by Meghan is ‘humble,’ claiming that her bloodline warrants the recognition she deserves

Meghan Markle has called Nigeria her “home” in a personal letter to a Yoruba King as she said she was “deeply humbled” by her new Nigerian name.

The Duchess of Sussex recently joined her husband Prince Harry on a three-day tour of the African country.

The couple were invited by General Christopher Musa and spent their time meeting with key figures and delivering powerful speeches.

During the trip, the Sussexes also met with Yoruba King, Oluwo of Iwo. He gave Meghan the Yoruba name Adetokunbo,

which translates as “the crown or royalty from a foreign land” and Meghan wrote him a letter to thank him for the sweet gesture.

The Yoruba King has now taken to Instagram to share a picture of the letter. It read: “Thank you for your warm welcome to Nigeria.

I am deeply humbled by your blessing of the traditional Yoruba name, Adetokunbo.

“I treasure the name and appreciate your trust in me to carry it with grace and dignity. Our visit to Nigeria was important to many reasons, not least because it gave us an opportunity to explore and understand my heritage, which extends to our children.”

Meghan then vowed to return to Nigeria as she said: “We look forward to coming back home one day soon.” It’s not the first time Meghan has referred to Nigeria as her home.

Speaking at a World Trade Organisation women’s event. Meghan gushed about Nigeria and dubbed it “my country”. She said: “I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country… my country.

“I am just flattered and honored and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived. And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion.”

Meghan previously discovered she is 43 percent Nigerian thanks to a genealogy test. During an interview with Nigerian-American actor Ziwe on her podcast Archetypes, Meghan said she didn’t know which tribe her ancestors were from but planned to “dig deeper into all of this”. Ziwe said the news was “huge for our community,” adding: “No, honestly, you do look like a Nigerian, you look like my aunt Uzo. So this is great.”
