Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the late Queen Elizabeth furious when they brought a photographer to her first meeting with Princess Lilibet, according to an expert.
Lilibet was born in California on June 4, 2021, following Harry and Meghan’s decision to leave the Royal Family.
With the youngster being born across the pond, there have been very few opportunities for her to see her extended family.
However, Lilibet finally got the chance to meet the Queen when the Sussexes flew over for the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Sadly, the Queen wasn’t impressed with the meeting, according to royal expert Phil Dampier.
He said the Queen was wary of Meghan and Harry and had a “lack of trust” following their shock interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Phil said the late monarch therefore decided not to get a picture taken with Lilibet.
He explained to The Sun: “Even if the Queen had been struggling with her health she was still sharp as a tack. She realised that any photograph taken of her with Lilibet could have been exploited. I don’t think she was very pleased that it was presented to her as a fait accompli that the name Lilibet was chosen in the first place. She put her foot down and said ‘no photographs’.”
Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family has gone from bad to worse in recent years, with the Duchess of Sussex avoiding a run-in with The Firm by making very few return trips to the UK. Meghan last stepped foot in the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
However, royal expert Robert Hardman believes there is still a way for the Sussexes to repair their damaged relationships. Speaking at Hay Festival, Robert suggested Harry should bring his wife to the UK as well as their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He added: “Once that happens it’s not such big news when it happens again. Then you start to get somewhere.”
