Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s request to legally change her last name is likely to be granted soon.
The daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wants to be referred to by just her mother’s last name, and one source recently revealed why.
According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly in their latest issue, the children have had trouble forgiving their father after his split with Jolie in 2015.
“They’ve struggled to forgive and connect with Brad since the divorce.
Their mom is the head of the household, and she’s raised them with love and selflessness their whole lives. Once Brad left, it was very hard for them to see him go to war with her.”
Shiloh, 18, filed paperwork on her birthday, May 27, to drop her father’s surname becoming Shiloh Jolie.
It’s expected that her request will be approved in the near future, with a legal expert who also spoke
with the publication on June 6 saying that “these requests in California are liberally granted,” and the teen’s request is “absolutely acceptable and something that will be granted.”
Besides Shiloh, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share five other children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Zahara also chose to use her mother’s surname, introducing herself as Zahara Jolie when she joined the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha at Spelman College last year.
The Bullet Train actor is reportedly aware of and upset by Shiloh’s decision to drop his last name, according to an insider who spoke with People earlier this month. “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,” the source said, adding, “The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
