Simon Cowell praised the team responsible for Denton’s drone performance on ‘America’s Got Talent’: ‘If possible, I would like to award them a special golden buzzer’

Simon Cowell pushed the golden buzzer during the North Richland Hills-based Sky Elements Drones’ audition showcase on America’s Got Talent that aired earlier this month.

Ahead of their trip to the live rounds in August, Sky Elements is first putting on Denton’s Fourth of July drone show.

On America’s Got Talent, more than 1,000 drones took flight to perform and recreate scenes such as the moon landing, even showcasing Cowell as an astronaut, in front of the judges.

All the judges, especially Cowell, praised the Sky Elements team for utilizing storytelling elements in the drone show.

Acts that earn a golden buzzer progress straight to the live shows. Typically, an act must earn at least three “Yes” votes from the judges to move forward to the live stages.

The North Texas drone company is behind Denton’s Fourth of July drone show.

Last year, Sky Elements’ drones were supposed to fly over the Square until the show was canceled due to inclement weather.

But in 2024, Denton Noon Kiwanis and Denton Parks and Recreation are set for the annual July Jubilee Festival at Quakertown Park from 6 to 11 p.m. with two shows on July 3.

“We are extremely hopeful that we will bring a show to life this year,” Kyle Pivnick, who leads business development at Sky Elements Drones, said. “Obviously we can’t control the weather, and we all know how Texas weather can be, but we are excited to come back and get a great show off the ground.”

The July 3 drone shows will occur above Quakertown Park and be visible to locals on the Square at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

“You can expect a Sky Elements Drone Show to be like no other,” Pivnick said. “We put hundreds of hours into each of our shows, and Denton locals can come experience that magic live and in person this year.”

Pivnick said that seeing Cowell hit the golden buzzer was one of the most amazing things in their careers.

The team will participate in the live shows spread across five episodes that will begin airing on August 13, according to NBC. Pivnick said a date for their live show performance has yet to be set.

“Being able to go on America’s Got Talent was a dream come true,” Pivnick said. “The Sky Elements team all came together originally just by our shared love of spreading joy across the country, and to do that on such a large scale stage was nothing short of amazing.”
