As the 2021-2022 academic year comes to a close, TGR Foundation is gearing up for another busy summer, filled with activities for students and educators.
The TGR Learning Lab is offering interactive virtual summer classes for middle and high school students to explore subjects ranging from engineering to computer science.
The Photography: Visual Storytelling class will take students through the fundamentals of photography from shooting various angles to studying composition techniques.
At the end of the session, students will highlight their work through a themed digital photobook showing how they put their skills into action.
The TGR Learning Lab’s weekly virtual summer classes are 90 minutes long and held Monday through Thursday. Classes begin Monday, July 11 – Thursday, July 28.
Registration for middle school and high school students will close on Friday, July 1.
For rising high school seniors interested in learning about college admissions and the financial aid process, College Bound Academy is a great option.
It’s a one-week academy explaining the essentials needed to get started on the college journey.
Participants will learn tips and best practices for writing a personal statement, creating college lists, finding scholarship opportunities and more. This year there will be three sessions available with in-person and virtual options.
Virtual STEM Studio is a hands-on professional learning experience for educators who want to sharpen their practices, add to their student engagement toolbox and connect with peers across the country. With support from DoD STEM, the workshops are provided at no-cost.
During the sessions educators will learn more about inquiry- based learning and how it encourages students to engage in their learning by posing questions, analyzing scenarios and finding solutions. This student-centered approach differs from traditional teacher-centered learning where instructors present information. There are three virtual workshops being offered from June 21- July 14.
Last but certainly not least, our collection of STEM Design challenges, available in both English and Spanish, create fun, family moments while encouraging everyone to think critically and creatively. The best part is most of the items needed for the Design Challenges can be easily found at home.
One of our popular activities is the Tallest Tower Design Challenge which only requires newspaper and tape. The goal is to build the tallest free-standing tower without taping it to the table and record how long it can stand.
