Rafael Nadal has decided not to play Wimbledon this year, choosing to save his energy for the upcoming Olympic Games.
This is considered a wise move, as grass courts are not the Spaniard’s strongest playing field.
Nadal shared: “In the press conference after the match at Roland Garros, I was asked about my summer schedule and since then I have been training on clay.
Yesterday I announced that I will compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris, my last Olympics.”
Tennis at the 2024 Olympics will be played on clay courts.
To better prepare for the tournament, the 22-time Grand Slam champion has signed up to participate in the ATP 250 tournament in Bastad, Sweden.
The event will take place just before the Olympics, which begin on July 15, the day after Wimbledon, and run until July 21. This is considered a rehearsal for the Spanish legend before embarking on his journey to conquer the third Olympic gold medal of his career.
