Prince Harry and Meghan Markle once had a high-profile friendship with soccer star David Beckham and fashion designer and singer Victoria Beckham. 

The four were once close, but things shifted at some point, and now, they reportedly don’t have much of a relationship at all.

The details of the friends’ separation have always been a little murky, but one insider claims 

that David was left “mortified” and that Harry felt “awkward” due to the fight mostly being between Victoria and Meghan.

It’s hard to know exactly what went on between Meghan and Victoria, but the most talked-about theory is that Meghan reportedly accused Victoria of leaking information 

about her — though it hasn’t been proven that this was true or that it’s what really caused the falling out. But insiders claim it led to an awkward phone call between Harry and David.

“Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified,” a source told The Sun in 2021, according to Express. “Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it … The idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous — and spoke to Harry about it.”

But Harry has always been protective of his wife; her treatment is part of the reason why the two left the royal family in the first place. And as a result, he wanted to talk to David about it rather than have Meghan and Victoria sort it out. “[David] quickly put Harry right, and the two men agreed to move on — but it certainly made things awkward for a while,” the source said.

It remains unclear if Meghan and Victoria ever moved past the situation, or whether Meghan realized Victoria definitely wasn’t (or definitely was) the one leaking information, but it seems the couples don’t spend time together anymore.

Harry will always call the UK his home, even if he has found a second home in the United States. He still has friends over there, but he doesn’t see much of them; Harry returns to the UK on occasion but has not brought his family there in nearly two years.

Meghan has not returned to the UK since 2022, and it doesn’t look like she will head back there any time soon. The Duchess of Sussex had an opportunity to visit with her husband back in May but chose to meet him afterward in Nigeria.

Harry has said that security issues are keeping his family from returning, and if he can get the security sorted out and get his own place for himself, Meghan, and their two children, then people could them in the UK a little more often.
