The 41-year old recalled that she had to kiss multiple actors during chemistry tests at castings at the beginning of her career.
During a recent interview with V Magazine, Hathaway shared how she felt about having to do chemistry tests with different actors in the early days of her career,
explaining that “it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors” during the audition process back in the early 2000s.
“Which is actually the worst way to do it,” she told the outlet about the practice.
“I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today, and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’
And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”
“And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it.
It wasn’t a power play. No one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time, and now we know better,” she added without naming the role.
The actress landed her breakthrough role as Mia Thermapolis in “The Princess Diaries.” She went on to star as “Ella Enchanted” and “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” before starring in “The Devil Wears Prada” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Les Miserables,” which earned her an Academy Award.
