Anne ended her 4-year relationship after stealing money from her ex, getting him jailed for fraud, in order to seek a safer partner. How dreadful!

Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend of four years Raffaello Follieri has decided now is a great time to spill on his past relationship with the actress.

The Italian property developer was imprisoned for four years after pleading guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy.

In short, the convicted conman was allegedly using other people’s money to fund his swanky lifestyle and to buy presents for Hathaway.

The Daily Mail reports Follieri spent £87,000 (AUD $162,000) hiring a private jet so.

That he and his girlfriend could attend a New Year’s Eve party at Oscar De La Renta’s home in the Dominican Republic.

In a new interview with the aforementioned outlet, Follieri describes his former relationship.

With Hathaway (or Annie as he affectionately calls her) as “fiery” with reported passionate flare-ups and passionate make-ups. The couple met in 2004 and dated for four years. In the June of 2008, Follieri was arrested for fraud.

“That night Annie phoned me from Los Angeles where she was doing Press [for the movie Get Smart]. We were on the phone for ten minutes talking about when she might come home,” says Follieri.

“If I remember, Annie’s last words were, ‘I love you for ever’ and we ended the call. That was 2am on June 24, 2008. At 6am I was arrested. I never spoke to Annie again.”

“I think she made a business decision,” he continues. “She decided saving her career was most important. I am not bitter. You can look in my eyes. I don’t have anger but I’ve been hurt.”

The Witches star, now 38, is now married to businessman Adam Schulman whom she share two children with. Follieri, 43, has now rebuilt his business and is married Konstantina (a woman who doesn’t appear to have a surname). The couple have their second child on the way.

Hathaway hosted Saturday Night Live eight years ago and referenced Follieri. “I broke up with my boyfriend, and two weeks later he was sent to prison for fraud. I mean, we’ve all been there, right ladies?” she said.
