Meghan Markle’s comments about Kate Middleton have strained their relationship, stemming from disagreements over their clothing choices.
The row reportedly began when Meghan, a fan of British designer Erdem Moraloglu,
became unhappy that Kate, as a long-time customer, was always given priority in choosing her outfits.
The Telegraph reported that this left Meghan, who had worn Erdem’s outfits at many events before joining the royal family, feeling ignored.
According to some sources, Meghan asked: “Why is Kate given priority? She’s not even the Queen yet.”
The row is said to have been exacerbated by Harry’s revelations about a row between Kate and Meghan over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress ahead of the 2018 royal wedding.
In his memoir and in a TV interview, Harry said Kate was furious at having to wait for Meghan to respond to her dress, and that Kate’s actions were “prejudiced” against Meghan.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and royal biographer, said Kate would be “upset and angry” if Harry discussed her publicly. Meanwhile, in the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan”, Meghan revealed that she deliberately wore neutral colours while in the UK to avoid “clashing” with other members of the Royal Family. Meghan explained: “As far as I know, you’re never supposed to wear the same colours as the Queen at public events. And you’re not supposed to wear the same colours as other senior members of the family.”
After becoming a member of the Royal Family, Meghan did not wear Erdem until 2019. The conflict over clothing is said to have strained the relationship between the two royal brides from the very beginning.
